As a disabled military veteran, I have faced rejection from housing programs, veterans' benefits, and professional opportunities. The punishment extends far beyond court—it becomes a permanent life sentence.

Colorado showed me accountability without constant fear. Florida feels like a government watching the man it once asked to defend it. There is a middle ground between ignoring victims and lifelong punishment for technical errors. The question is not whether accountability matters—it is whether this approach actually keeps anyone safer today.
