Friends,
During this Ignatian Year, we have been asked to identify where we see Christ in our lives. I see Christ each and every day in our young men, our faculty and staff, and the entire BC High community. I give thanks for the blessing of relationship and the ways in which we have stayed connected through the challenges of this pandemic. It's hard to believe two years ago we made the difficult decision to close our doors for a "deep clean." It is even harder to capture the many times we have had to reimagine ideas and pivot over the past two years as well. I'm thankful that our tremendous faculty and staff have continued to work hard to ensure our students feel loved and supported.
I'm grateful that our students are thriving in the classroom and college acceptances are pouring in, our athletic teams are chalking up wins and playoffs will soon start, the arts are flourishing and life outside the classroom is bustling. We are thrilled to wish our students well as they head to Rome for February vacation -- our first trip in two years!
I feel blessed that as our nation celebrates Black History Month each February, the BC High community finds ways to recognize its' importance as well. It's only timely that I share our bi-annual update on diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are proud that our faculty, staff, students, and parents have risen to the challenge and embraced these important Institutional goals. I was overwhelmed with emotion by the annual MLK, Jr. Prayer Service in January, which was student driven. The resiliency they showed as we had to pivot at the last minute to a virtual service again this year was a testament to their character and determination. I hope you'll take the time to watch the service and applaud these young men for their commitment to this important event.
I am blessed to have been renewed by the Board of Trustees, as the president of BC High for another five years in partnership with Fr. Michael McFarland, SJ who will continue to serve as the board chair. Together, our collaborative spirit and shared belief in the importance of a BC High and Jesuit education provides an exciting opportunity as we embark on the priorities of our strategic plan Vision 2026: In Pursuit of Depth & Human Excellence.
As we prepare for the Lenten season, a time of fasting and preparation, I hope you find time to reflect and consider where you find Christ each day. Please join us as we celebrate Lent and the Ignatian Year.

BC High's Next Strategic Plan
Vision 2026: In Pursuit of Depth & Human Excellence
|
At the January 8 Board of Trustees meeting, the new strategic plan for BC High was approved. I am excited to share it with you today. In partnership with the Board, the leadership team engaged in the strategic planning process which was a terrific way to prioritize what will propel us forward for the next generation. Together, we have developed a bold vision for the future of the school and one that aligns with and supports the principles of a Jesuit, Catholic education.
Our priorities over the next five years include providing transformative experiences in the pursuit of human excellence; recruiting, supporting, and retaining faculty and staff who are deeply committed to the school’s mission and values; attracting a diverse student body that embraces and furthers the Jesuit, Catholic tradition; enhancing and building state-of-the-art facilities to accommodate student needs; and strengthening the school and its students as a leaders in Boston and beyond.
Two priorities that I am particularly proud to present today are the House System and the Campus Master Plan. I will continue to share new information after each of the quarterly Board meetings and I invite you to visit the Strategic Plan website for more timely updates.

The House System is an important way for a large school like ours to feel smaller and for our young men to feel known and loved on a deeper level. We are creating 'community within a community' as a way to strengthen these important relationships.
The last two years have demonstrated, perhaps more than any other time, the importance of cura personalis – care for the whole person – and with it our core responsibility to develop and further relationships and experiences that best support spiritual and intellectual growth and overall student wellness.

The Strategic Plan prioritizes the development and enhancement of new wellness facilities and technologies with a comprehensive Campus Master Plan that will further help address student health and wellbeing. This includes renovation and expansions of existing spaces and development of new areas, including the stadium, innovation space and athletic facilities.
Phase One of the project will include:
- Fence & Signage Project
- Stadium Project
- Maintenance Facility
