At Christmas time, Santa always brings our first year Cubs a compass. Map and compass skills were something that we had been working on with our Cubs but we didn't get a chance to practice these skills in the outdoors. For the Easter weekend, my son, a first year cub, and I created a compass Easter Egg hunt for our group to complete individually. He painted six rocks like Easter eggs and hid them in a park near our house, carefully taking the bearings between each "Easter Egg" and counting his paces between them. I then created a table with the bearings and paces to share with the group. To allow our Beavers who don't have experience with a compass to participate, a map was created to make it more of a treasure hunt. While the weather wasn't ideal over the Easter weekend, some of our group did get out and complete the hunt and had fun doing it.

Regina 79th
I had purchased 2inch jiffy pots from the dollar store. I had planted three flower seeds in each one (so at least one seed should grow!). The flower seeds were sweet peas.

Each cub received two flower pots. I delivered the flower pots to all the cubs. We will be following up with the Cubs on our virtual meetings as to the progress of the flowers. How many seeds sprouted, how big the plants are etc. We will ask them to show us their flowers as they grow.

We used the jiffy pots because once the flowers are ready to put in a flower bed or flower pot there is not transplanting - they just put the jiffy pot in the hole that is dug.

The flower pots was our way of celebrating earth day. One of the March activities was to plant the seeds on a meeting night with the Cubs. This was our way of continuing with that project.
