Cone Zones in Mount Penn required creativity and flexibility on this year's route.

Annual Walk-A-Thon Makes Great Strides!
A little (ok, a lot of!) construction could not derail this year's Annual Walk-A-Thon for Catholic Education. With a new route, our students, faculty, and devoted volunteers detoured around heavy equipment and stopped traffic to travel through our Mount Penn neighborhood as we walked to raise support and funds for our school.

Bigs guided littles, and Central Berks Police Department helped keep us all safe as we walked to the "A" Field, stopped for some recreation, and then headed back to school for more festivities, including an ice cream social and assembly. In a new twist on an old tradition, the students incorporated a gently used shoe drive for Soles4Souls in connection with the Walk-A-Thon. In the past two years, our students have collected over 2,500 pairs of shoes for the Soles4Souls mission!

This year's Walk-A-Thon tee shirt incorporated the "Soles4Souls" message into the artwork, and was designed by 8th grader, Evelyn Nguyen.

To date, we've raised over $20,000 in funds for the school and counting. Thank you to all for the tremendous support of this important event!

Notably, the Annual Walk-A-Thon coincided with "National Do Something Nice Day," (October 5) and we are grateful for the news coverage from BCTV.org. Click here to read the full article.

ALUMNI SPOLIGHT:
Catherine "Kitty" Wright
We are so proud to celebrate Berks Catholic's 2018 Distinguished Alumni, Robert and Catherine Wright, in a special way here at SCS. Kitty is a graduate of Reading Central Catholic, and a graduate of our own SCS (Class of 1954). Kitty and her husband were recognized by Bishop Alfred Schlert at the Diocesan Festival on September 30, and again at the Berks Catholic Extravaganza on October 6.

Kitty was a member of the Diocese of Allentown Board of Education from 1983 to 1991 and served as both Vice President and President of the Board in that time. At Alvernia University, Kitty served on the Board of Trustees from 2004-2012, on many committees such as Trusteeship, Academic Affairs, and Mission Effectiveness. She was also a Board Member for the Alvernia University President's Arts & Cultural Council. Kitty has served St. Catharine of Siena School as a Board Member, President of the Board, committee member, and volunteer. At Central Catholic High School, she served as Vice President of the Advisory Board and President of the Mother's Club. Kitty participated on the Transition Committee for Berks Catholic High School and has been a member of the Development Committee for Berks Catholic since 2011.

Kitty remains an active volunteer for St. Catharine's, dedicating her time to tutor students, and also supporting the development and marketing efforts of our school. Congratulations to Kitty and Bob on this well earned recognition!
