Dear Falls Church Family,
Scripture tells us over and over that in turning to God we will find comfort, reassurance, and peace, and in these days leading up to the November 5 election I find myself needing each of those qualities more by the day.
The Community of Deacons in the Diocese of Virginia has invited its congregations to pray daily in the week leading up to the election. Each day during this week, parishioners and parishes throughout the diocese will pray in thirty-minute slots for our nation and this election. I have signed The Falls Church up to pray between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM, from tomorrow through next Tuesday (the 30th through the 5th) and I invite you into this intentional time of prayer, whether you’re getting ready for work, on the train, in a car, out for a run, or having a cup of coffee. Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing, I invite you to pray during these thirty minutes in any way that works for you.
Here is a link to resources so that, should you wish, you may turn to these prayers, collects, and scripture passages to read during our thirty-minute slot. Any prayer is good prayer, the deacons and I simply invite you to pray for this election and our nation.
And if you need the peace that a sacred space offers on election day itself, the Historic Church will be open for prayer during regular business hours. Please know that you are welcome to come and go as you wish.
Holding our parish family and our nation itself in my prayers,
