A COVID-19 UPDATE FROM WELD RE-4 SUPERINTENDENT DAN SEEGMILLER

Weld RE-4 schools to be closed March 14 - April 5.

After thoughtful discussion, the Board of Education and I determined that our district will extend its spring break in an effort to keep our entire community healthy. All schools will maintain a regular schedule today, March 13, 2020, closing to the public once daycare services are done for the day. All afterschool and weekend activities have been canceled. Our buildings will be closed from March 14 - April 5.

Here is what you need to know about our school closure and please visit weldre4.org and check your email for updates.

  • Today, we are asking all students and teachers to take home anything they will need while our buildings are closed.
  • All school-related activities and events scheduled during the closure will be canceled. CHSAA has suspended all spring sports and activities until early April and Weld RE-4 middle school sports will also be suspended aligned with CHSAA’s timeline.
  • Free breakfast and lunch bagged meals for all students will be available at specific pick-up sites as soon as it can be organized. More information on this to come.
  • Only essential Weld RE-4 personnel will be allowed in district buildings March 16 - April 5. Electronic key access for all other employees will be turned off. All buildings will be closed for rentals and our playgrounds and athletic fields will be closed to the public to limit the spread of illness.
  • All school buildings and buses will be sanitized.

We are working with the Colorado Department of Education to determine how to make up lost days and reschedule any necessary testing. We expect the school year will extend into the summer. By how much, we do not know, but we will share information as soon as it becomes available so everyone can plan accordingly.

We know having kids at home for an extended period of time is a hardship for some of our families. However, we also know the generosity of the Weld RE-4 community in times of need. While adhering to health department guidelines, we encourage you to plan now, reach out and support one another. Do what you can to ease each other’s burdens and keep spirits high. The Weld RE-4 community excels at defining moments—we tackle them together and our community emerges stronger every time.
