For such a short month, February in Massachusetts is jam-packed with extra events and excitement! You’ll be on the go all month, from school vacation fun to Black History Month honors and Valentine’s Day celebrations. It’s the perfect time to discover new exhibits, share some sweet treats, and get outside for fresh air and exploration. Sure, it may be cold, but we love winter in Massachusetts. Pile on the layers, grab your hat, gloves, and scarf, and GO!

Featured Region: North of Boston

You’re invited to Salem’s So Sweet Chocolate and Ice Sculpture Festival February 7–9! A decadent tradition of delectable chocolate, sparkling ice sculptures, and Valentine’s Day shopping. Signature elements of the festival include a Friday night kickoff party, 30 ice sculptures sprinkled around downtown, two nights of illuminated sculptures and more! Join Mass Audubon for the Merrimack River Eagle Festival on 2/15 to spot Bald Eagles and learn about behaviors such as soaring, fishing, and showing courtship displays. You'll stay active and warm outdoors as you and your family learn together. Help welcome the Lego Train back to the Wenham Museum on 2/15 & 2/16. Come see a rainbow colored, L-gauge model train speeding along a brick track as it races by soaring skyscrapers, country cottages, mountainside ski slopes and much more.

Plymouth County

Check out the many performance options this month at The Spire Center. Of special interest is “The Song is Still Being Written: The Folk Music Portrait Project” on February 13. Through imagery, conversation and music, photographer Barry Schneier, and Boston Globe arts reporter James Sullivan bring local folk music history to life, as they document artists who paved the way for the folk revolution in Boston and Cambridge. Interviews include Lori McKenna and Tom Rush, Josh Ritter, Peter Rowan and Patti Griffin, and music legends such as Jim Kweskin and Joan Baez. Find all February events here!

The Berkshires

Theater, art, comedy, dance, music, and more in the middle of winter? You bet! The thirteenth annual 10×10 Upstreet Winter Arts Festival will be held February 13-23. From performances and art shows to comedy, ice carving and spoken word, 10×10 warms up the Berkshires winter. The festival is a collaborative effort spearheaded by Barrington Stage Company (who hosts its new play event during this festival) and the City of Pittsfield. Be sure to pack up the family and head to the Berkshires to enjoy these 10 days of fun!

The City of Lowell is excited to announce the return of WinterFest on Friday, February 21 and Saturday, February 22 to Downtown Lowell! This beloved annual event will feature an array of exciting activities and attractions for all ages, including live music, performances, art, fire & ice sculptures, a chocolate festival, food trucks and, of course, the soup competition.
