Sophia's Wish to Give Back
When Sophia was 12-years-old she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma and immediately began an aggressive course of chemotherapy.

While the treatments and surgeries she endured were necessary to save her life, they made Sophia feel disconnected from her family and friends. She underwent frequent blood work, had daily injections and suffered side effects. She feared for her future.

When Sophia had the opportunity for a wish, she chose it carefully.
She'd come a long way since her diagnosis and felt she had some knowledge to offer others in her situation. She chose to give back.

In December 2018, with help from Sobeys/Safeway, Sophia packed up care packages of her own creation: toiletries like toothbrushes, lotion and hand sanitizer; gum; gift cards for coffee and groceries. And a book written by Sophia, full of tips she's learned through her own journey. This month, Sophia will distribute those packages to new diagnosed patients at the Stollery Children's Hospital and the Cross-Cancer Institute.

Sophia's wish to turn her own experience into something she can share to help others is an amazing gift. We're grateful to everyone who helped make it happen!

Upcoming Events
Time to get your team together! The Valleyview Cup  hockey tournament takes place March 1-3; February 15 is the cut off for team entry. The Valleyview Cup organizers have supported Make-A-Wish for 6 years—they’ve helped grant 12 wishes and raised over $44,000 in 2018 alone. We’re so grateful for our community supporters…and you can get in the game!

You can create a Make-A-Wish fundraiser too!
Donor events—like the Valleyview Cup—are an incredible way for supporters to raise money for Make-A-Wish. You chose the event and organize it; a book sale, silent auction, jewelry party, fun run... the options are endless. We'll promote your event and support you along the way. When you're done, donated the proceeds to Make-A-Wish, and know you helped make a difference in the life of a local child living with a critical illness.
