A word from the Bishop ahead of the upcoming Diocesan Convention.
September 7, 2018

Dear Friends,

As we reflect on our past year of restructuring - living into our commitment to be a proactive and vital people, adaptive to the world, and listening to the Spirit - we have much to celebrate.

We have lived into our reconfigured three regions, hiring our Canon Missioners to bring our resources closer to the local congregation. We have committed ourselves to deeper communication with each other and evangelism to the outside world. We are developing tools to assess and support our congregations as they seek to share in God's dream for the world. We are becoming more adaptive in the redistribution of our diocesan offices. And we continue to listen and discern, supporting one another in love along the way.

It is an honor to be here, working alongside you as your bishop.

As we look to the future - what the next year, ten years may hold - we must continue to be adaptive, responsive, and open to what God is calling us to be.

Please watch this video message, a Word from your Bishop, as I give an overview of the past year, what to expect at convention, and offer an invitation to conversation around developing a deeper relationship with our brothers and sisters in the Episcopal Diocese of Eastern Michigan.
I look forward to being with you at the upcoming pre-convention meetings and at our Convention in October as we work to "move deeper."

The Rt. Rev. Whayne M. Hougland, Jr.
IX Bishop, The Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan
