BEST YEAR EVER!!
Because of YOU, we've had a banner year at the Allegheny County Parks Foundation! You helped us raise the resources to take on exciting new projects and move closer to finishing those already underway. We extend a heart-felt THANK YOU to all who demonstrated how important the Allegheny County Parks are to them by making a year-end donation to ACPF. Because of your support, 2019 promises to knock it out of the park!!!! (teehee)
2018 Highlights - A Year in Photos!
We welcomed 2018 by celebrating the exciting history of the Allegheny County Parks at our 90th anniversary symposium at the Heinz History Center. We ended the year by planting hundreds of new trees in South and Boyce parks. In between we hosted thousands of guests at our spectacular Indian Hill meadow and took steps for improvements in several other parks. Check out the highlights below!

Volunteer Spotlight
My name is Ava Kobulnicky. I was chosen along with other Elizabeth Forward Middle School students to plant trees at Boyce Park. It was a very nice experience. I was partnered with a friend and we planted a lot of trees. It was a beautiful day in Boyce, and after we were all done planting trees, the place looked so nice. It is great to help the environment. The world is full of so many great things, and it is nice to see kids outside helping for a change.

Personally, I have always been interested in biology and ecology for almost my whole life. It was a great honor to join with the gifted and talented students for the day. I was so excited for biology class when I got to the eighth grade because I like to learn about nature, the ecosystem, how things react in nature, and the list keeps going. Being truthful, I just wanted to dissect something! I thought that would be cool. But I really enjoyed the trip and I can't wait to come back and see the trees years from now, where they will be thriving in the sunlight. They will stand big, tall, and proud to be there, just like the people who planted them!

Green Design Parking Lot
We recently took the first step toward the construction of an innovative green parking alternative to one of the paved lots in South Park. The triangular, two-acre lot is located at the corner of Brownsville Road and Corrigan Drive adjacent to the Fairgrounds Oval. ACPF awarded a contract to Urban Rain Studio, DBA Ethos Collaborative, of East Liberty, to design the green parking lot. The lot will incorporate storm water management techniques to reduce the impact of storm water runoff to Catfish Run and will be landscaped to add aesthetic appeal to that section of the park. The designers see the public park setting as an opportunity for place-making and to inform the public of the environmental benefits of green storm water design. This design project is being funded in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and Allegheny County.
