A Message from JMTP

As another programming year comes to a close, we're proud to reflect on the impact made possible through the support of our donors, partners, coaches, and friends.

This year, more than 5,000 young people participated in JTMP programming each week across New York City. From a student's first experience picking up a tennis racket to scholarship athletes competing on international stages, JMTP continues to create opportunity through tennis.

Since inception, JMTP scholarship athletes have earned 45 college scholarships, demonstrating what is possible when talent, hard work, and opportunity come together. Thank you for helping make that possible.

2025-2026 PROGRAMMING YEAR IN REVIEW

Community Program

This year, JMTP served more than 5,000 under-resourced youth each week across Harlem, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens.

By The Numbers:

🎾 5,000+ students served weekly

🏫 32 school partners

🤝 5 community-based organization partners

🎾 Every student received a brand-new tennis racket at the end of the school year thanks to the generous support of our partners over at Head/Penn

For many students, our Community Program is their first introduction to tennis. For some, it becomes the first step on a pathway that leads to scholarships, college opportunities, and life-changing experiences.

Excellence Program

Our Excellence Program continued to provide dedicated young athletes with advanced training, educational support, and mentorship throughout the year.

Program Highlights:

  • Several Excellence Program athletes competed in USTA tournaments for the very first time.
  • The Excellence Speaker Series took place throughout the entire year, featuring leaders from a wide range of backgrounds who shared their experiences, challenges, and lessons learned, provoking thoughtful discussions around pursuing excellence on and off the tennis court.

This year, three Excellence Program athletes earned full scholarships to the John McEnroe Tennis Academy, demonstrating the power of opportunity and the impact of donor support.

Our Newest Lawrence Kleger Next Level Fund Scholar-Athlete:

Piotr Gradzki

The Lawrence Kleger Next Level Fund helps remove financial barriers for promising scholarship athletes, ensuring they have access to the training, competition, travel, and support necessary to reach their full potential.

Piotr Gradzki embodies exactly what this fund was created to support.

Since joining JMTP through the Annual Tryout in 2023, Piotr has distinguished himself through his work ethic, determination, and commitment to continuous improvement. His dedication both on and off the court has made him a standout scholarship player.

As Piotr continues to pursue higher levels of competition, the support from the Next Level Fund will help ensure financial barriers never stand in the way.

Piotr's Perspective

"Because of JMTP, I've been able to compete in top-level tournaments that I never thought I'd have the chance to play. They've helped me grow not only as a tennis player, but also through fitness, discipline, and hard work."

DONOR IMPACT

Donor support makes stories like Piotr's possible.

Tennis Doesn't Stop When School Ends:

Summer Programming Preview

While the school year may be over, JMTP programming continues throughout the summer. JMTP remains committed to creating opportunities for young people across New York City year-round.

June Open Play

JMTP hosted a June Open Play Program at Randall's Island, providing court time, coaching, and match play opportunities to the broader community. The program introduced new players to tennis, while helping returning players continue to develop their skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Annual Scholarship Tryouts

Each year, JMTP and JMTA host an open scholarship tryout to identify talented, motivated young athletes who may not otherwise have access to elite training opportunities.

This year's tryout welcomed over 130 aspiring athletes, who were evaluated by JMTA coaches through tennis, athletic, and competitive assessments. For many of our scholarship players, the annual tryout was the first step on a pathway that led to elite training, national and international competition, and college opportunities.

Summer Community Programming

Randall's Island Park Alliance (RIPA) Camp: RIPA campers participate in 4 hours of tennis programming each day over the course of eight weeks at Sportime Randall’s Island.

Children's Aid Society & SCAN Harbor: Through our summer partnerships with these organizations, students maintain access to quality tennis instruction as part of their camp experience.

Community Pop-Ups: JMTP coaches will continue bringing tennis directly into communities through special events and outreach initiatives.
