Quick Health Tips From H-L  

H – Heart Disease is a leading cause of death in the US.  Take care of your heart by eating heart healthy foods – non-gmo foods, organic fruits & vegetables, fish, healthy fat

I –  Inflammation – Research points to the fact that most health issues are due to inflammation in the body.  Anti-inflammatory foods and supplements can help.

J – Juicing – a great way to get full nutrients into the body especially for senior citizens.

K – Vitamin K – Helps with blood clotting, and bone health. Deficiency causes fractures and osteoporosis. Found in dark green leafy vegetables; spinach, broccoli, kale, and asparagus,egg yolks, and green tea

L – Liver – the key organ in the body for detoxification.  Foods that help our liver are garlic, beets, carrots, green tea, olive oil, leafy green vegetables.

I have many clients that want to take off those extra, stubborn 5 to 10 pounds gained during the winter.  So here are a few tips that might help.

I am not a big believer in diets but I am a big believer in changing food habits for better health. If you are looking for a guideline though, check out the DASH diet - it is the #1 dietary plan 7th year in a row! Also heart healthy!! A few hints from me:

  1. Don't eat sugar - you'll find in 3 days you don't have the cravings
  2. Forget diet drinks - they put on weight
  3. Don't drink fruit juices - too much sugar!
  4. Cut out GMO foods - they wreck havoc on your system and actually add weight. GMOs are in most processed foods. Look for the NON-GMO labeling.
  5. Cut out dairy, breads(gluten), red meats, decrease carbs and cut down on alcohol.

Pain Free Foods

 A few Pain Free anti-inflammatory foods:
  • Flaxseeds and flaxseed oil
  • Hemp Oil
  • Ginger and garlic
  • Carrots and Sweet Potatoes
  • Spinach and Broccoli

A friend passed this along to me.  If you ever wondered about antibiotics and especially if you have been on Cipro or a derivative, you will find  this blog totally scary.  You wonder how drugs like this get passed by the FDA. Always talk to your doctor about possible side effects to these drugs or any drugs prior to taking.


One of my clients complained about GOUT!  It is a painful affliction causing pain in the foot. My mom used to get it all the time.  The foods that trigger gout and should be avoided completely are; shellfish, sardines, anchovies, organ meats, and beer.

PET Health Tips

As most of you know, I am a huge animal lover. I have bred, rescued and trained dogs. This beautiful boy here was lost to cancer just a year ago at age 8.  I believe, after on-going research, that our food chain and environment our making our best friends sick.  And, if you have ever had a sick pet, you know how expensive it can become.  For dogs - do not feed them macadamia nuts.  It could be fatal.
