Building a Future

The new Kabanda School in Liberia opened to students when they began the school year this fall!

Humanity First came to this village first in 2017 to provide education under a federal government community schools program. The students themselves were part of the village team that built the initial building to have a dedicated place for learning.

Kabanda was a 40 minute walk from the nearest town, which was itself a 5 hours drive from the capital city Monrovia. When the first visit by HFUSA leaders was planned, the villagers worked for 3 weeks to clear additional brush that allowed the car to drive closer and reduce the walk - not that our team minded, but the families were extremely dedicated to their new school. The village is still set back from main roads into the forest today.

The students have continued their dedicated learning while HFUSA raised the funds to build a larger integrated building for all the classrooms. The Humanity First school is the only primary school within a few hours walking distance of this village and several surrounding communities. This new 4-classroom building has more space for the current students, and can hold even more students from neighboring areas.

HFUSA doesn’t just build schools, we sustain them through continued financial and operational support. We hope to support many more years of learning in Kabanda.

Next, new school buildings in two similarly remote villages will be ready for students early next year. Each school is one step closer to our goal to open 25 new schools by 2025!

Be Prepared

Are you prepared for the holidays?

Much less an emergency?

HFUSA has jackets, fleeces, shirts, mugs for hot cocoa or chai, and more. Take a look and get what you need for the holiday, or just to keep your family warm over winter break.

While the family is together, it’s also a good time to talk through emergency plans and ideas. Preparation helps bring peace of mind. HF also has a to-go backpack full of essential emergency supplies for a family of five in case of a disaster.
