Greetings!
Happy Easter, to those who celebrate. Here in Lenox, Mass., it's sunny and springy, and all is good.
I was visiting family in Kentucky for the past four weeks, and while I was there, we decided to do a crash-project renovation of Mom's 1974 bathroom. It was her dream to have a black-and-white 1940s style bathroom -- so we aimed to please. Issue was: We needed to do the renovation FAST, so I could not make any special orders. Virtually everything came from "in stock" at Louisville Tile, Lowe's or Home Depot.
How did it turn out? Here is my 7-Day Bathroom Gut Renovation Chronicle:
The first thing we chose was the floor tile and the wall tile: in-stock black-and-white hex for the floor and subways for the wall -- Mom loved it, decisively. So we were off and running. Read how the story started here.
Next, I crossed my fingers and ran to Lowe's and Home Depot, hoping that I could find some in-stock trim tile that would work. I was super happy with this combination -- and the prices were terrific. Read more.
My Aunt Mary Anne was helping make all these rapid-fire choices, and next, we scoured Elizabethtown, KY, for a vanity and countertop that we would load in the car. Hint: We didn't buy this vanity, but it was crucial in our decision-making.
Big decisions out of the way, now it was time for the little, yet still high-impact stuff -- faucet, lighting, medicine cabinet, towel bars, cabinet hardware, toilet.
Shopping done -- gutting, drywalling, electric, plumbing, tiling under way -- and the bathroom is DONE. We bling it up with vintage costume jewelry and Shabby Chic TM accessories from Target. Mom is Happy!
Of course, I must reflect: Read my lessons learned -- 9 great details for a bathroom remodel.
I still need to do my "things I would do differently". Soon enough.
This was SOOOOOOO FUN! |
