June News & Updates
Dear Friends and Supporters,

There is a palpable sense of relief about. Many of us are vaccinated against COVID-19 and are relishing in a cautious measure of normalcy. Our masks are handy, but often remain pocketed. We are tentatively socializing, shopping and sometimes traveling. We are returning to fitness classes, meeting in person instead of on Zoom, and actually hugging! July the Fourth is not quite here – but we’re already celebrating freedom!

We’re not on the other side of the pandemic crisis, and we’re guardedly tracking the COVID-19 variants. But as more people are vaccinated, the virus is waning. Former volunteers are returning to Macon Volunteer Clinic (MVC), and new ones are training. This allows us to serve more patients – which thrills us! We are passionate about our mission of providing primary care to the uninsured and underserved working adults of our community – at no cost to them. As local vaccination rates increase, so too does our reach to the patients who need us. Help us spread the good news that vaccinations are safe, effective and free!

This month we welcomed Justin Wolfe to MVC as our new Nurse Practitioner. Justin has 21 years of licensed nursing experience, and has provided care across the lifespan to thousands of patients. He is a recent MSN Family Nurse Practitioner graduate, and recently relocated to Middle Georgia. Justin has top notch clinical and interpersonal skills and is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. He brings many dimensions of experience to MVC, including telemedicine, utilization review, case management and more. We hope each of you has the privilege of meeting Justin in the coming weeks.

We have two important dates for you to note. The Five Star Celebrity Classic, an annual Rescue Mission fundraiser, also benefits MVC. It is scheduled for September 20-21. If you shoot clay or play golf – or enjoy a good bargain at a silent auction – you won’t want to miss this! And, for you tennis players, October 18 brings our inaugural tennis tournament fundraiser at Idle Hour – the ‘Called to Serve’ Tennis tournament! We’re counting on your participation as a sponsor or player! More details will be published on both events as the dates approach.

Thank you for your role in providing essential healthcare services to a gentleman who was recently released from prison and works at a downtown restaurant; to a lady who works at a wholesale florist; and another with a local tire shop. They are grateful patients, and we are privileged to participate in this important mission of providing primary care to uninsured and underserved working adults of Macon-Bibb County – at no cost to them!

Warmest regards,
Nancy White

Consider Planned Giving for MVC!

Planned giving is also referred to as gift planning* or legacy giving. It enables philanthropic individuals to make larger gifts to charitable organizations than they could make from ordinary income.

Some planned gifts provide life-long income to donor. Other gift plans use estate and tax planning to provide for charity and heirs in ways that maximize the gift and/or minimize its impact on the donor’s estate.

Thus, by definition, a planned gift is any major gift, made in lifetime or at death as part of a donor’s overall financial and/or estate planning. These include gifts of equity, life insurance, real estate, personal property, or cash.

By contrast, gifts to the annual fund or for membership dues are made from a donor’s discretionary income, and while they may be budgeted for, they are not planned.

Whether a donor uses cash, appreciated securities/stock, real estate, artwork, partnership interests, personal property, life insurance, a retirement plan, etc., the benefits of funding a planned gift can make this type of charitable giving very attractive to both donor and charity. Planned gifts are a critical component in philanthropy.

Talk with your estate planning professional today about ways you might leave a legacy gift to support Macon Volunteer Clinic in the future. Society grows great when we plant trees in whose shade we know we shall never sit.

A Patient's Story
Macon Volunteer Clinic has various community partners, including Anderson Health Clinic. Anderson Health Clinic is a medical group practice located at Atrium Health Navicent.

A patient of Macon Volunteer Clinic was recently referred to Anderson Clinic for treatment for metastatic melanoma, and transferred to them for her ongoing care.

Upon leaving Macon Volunteer Clinic, she expressed deep gratitude for all the care she has received from us over the years. Even though she misses us, she recognizes being a patient at the Anderson Clinic is the best place for her to be to in order for her to receive specialized treatment.

In cases such as this, our cup runs over. We are so fortunate to be entrusted with the care of our patients, and so fortunate that when cases arise that are beyond our scope of care, there are faithful community partners who share our mission and whose compassionate hearts beat with ours.
