Commercial & Industrial Interlocking Flooring

A clear path to safer flooring

MRI-Suite-Room image

MRI and X-ray systems, like many types of high-value electronic equipment, are sensitive to static electricity and electrostatic discharge.

Why it Matters

Electrostatic discharge can interfere with equipment performance and may lead to malfunctions or inconsistent imaging results. Because MRI and X-ray systems are essential for accurate diagnosis, any disruption can affect patient care, delay procedures, and impact overall efficiency within a healthcare facility. A common static shock from walking across carpet and touching a door handle can reach approximately 5,000 volts. In a clinical setting, this level of discharge can be transferred during routine interactions, such as when a technician positions a patient or when a patient comes into contact with equipment. These events can be uncomfortable and may introduce unnecessary risk in an already sensitive environment.

Going Deeper

ESD flooring is designed to control and safely dissipate static electricity. In MRI and X-ray rooms, it helps reduce the buildup of static charges and limits the potential for discharge events. This creates a more controlled environment that supports equipment reliability and enhances both patient and staff safety.

FreeStyle products frequently used in these environments include:

FreeStyle

Conductive vinyl is most often utilized in these situations, as it provides an attractive surface that maintains well. Our interlocking system minimizes subfloor moisture, enhances indoor air quality, and lends itself for a quick install that saves time, money, and inconvenience to patients and staff.

BioLock

Created for healthcare, educational, and lab environments, BioLock comes in a variety of colors. It also has a soft-foot-feel, is naturally resistant to gouges and scuffs, and is slip-resistant, creating a safe environment for medical staff and patients.

Educational

Selecting the proper flooring material can significantly impact both the students and staff in a learning environment. On a basic level, having a comfortable floor benefits students and teachers as they are moving around the building throughout the day. Aesthetically, the color and design of the floor can be used to engage students.
