RETIRED FACULTY RECEPTION - AUGUST 16, 2023

RFA Members were out in force at the University Foundation's Retired Faculty Reception this past Wednesday. The annual event, open to all retired faculty, is a way to recognize newly retired faculty as well as previously retired faculty and the many ways they continue to engage with the university and the community.

Jill Wallace arranged for RFA members to go on a guided bus tour of campus before the reception began. Brian Saeman, Director of Planned Giving and acting ex-officio RFA Board Member, led the tour.

For those who have been away from campus for awhile, the growth is astonishing! Brian pointed out that a concerted effort has been made to make newer buildings blend architecturally with existing buildings, giving our ever-expanding campus a cohesive feel.

Attendees were allowed to park in the new Gateway parking garage - a very welcome addition!

For out-of-town members and those who couldn't make it Wednesday, Jill Wallace will provide a PowerPoint tour of campus at our October meeting.

Tables were beautifully decorated. Food and drink were abundant and tasty.

Provost Jeff Thompson and President Brian Sandoval made remarks congratulating retirees on their impactful contributions to the university, the students, and the community. Sandoval, the first UNR alum to serve as UNR President, stated he would not be in the position he's in today, if not for the guidance and encouragement received from administrators and professors as an undergrad. "You DO make a difference!", was his message.

President Sandoval also complimented the RFA on our outstanding monthly newsletter, considering it among the very best of any he receives. That's high praise. Thanks President Sandoval!

RFA President, Jill Wallace, thanked Provost Thompson and President Sandoval for their support of RFA, and encouraged newly retired faculty to consider joining our organization.

RFA is open to any retired administrative or academic faculty member. Members receive invitations to monthly programs, as well as occasional outings, tours, and special events.
