March Is Workplace Wellness Month
In that spirit, CPS Optix would like to focus our attention (and your eyes) to safety eyewear in the workplace.
If you’re looking for prescription goggles or safety eyewear, we’re a participant in safety eyeglass programs for both Hoya and Essilor Safety Prescription Eyewear. That means we have access to a very broad range of prescription safety eyewear from both vendors—including eyewear for construction, pharmaceutical, aerospace, and industrial, just to name a few.
In 2023, the workplace also extends to our homes. That’s why the American Academy of Ophthalmology has chosen to focus its wellness tips for this special month on those who work from home. Here are some precautions AAO recommends for WFH professionals and their eyes:
Regular work breaks – This can include practicing the 20-20-20 rule. Simply set a timer to remind you to look 20 feet away every 20 minutes for 20 seconds (e.g., looking away from your computer screen or out the window.
Eye ergonomics. Sit 18 to 25 inches away from your computer screen, about arm’s length. Adjust screen brightness and contrast so that it feels comfortable. Also, position the screen so your eyes gaze slightly downward, not straight ahead or up.
Use artificial tears. Eye drops will help keep your eyes moist and relieve the discomfort of dry eye. These can be bought over the counter without a
prescription. A humidifier can also minimize dry eye.
If your screen time is having an impact on your vision, ask your doctor about computer glasses. These are progressive glasses made especially for computer screens, which are typically placed between 20 and 26 inches from your face to the screen.
Should you need a pair of computer glasses, CPS Optix has several styles of frames available. And, as always, if you have trouble getting out to our store, give us a call at 401-921-4141 and we can set up a time to come to you.
Stay safe and be well!
