Last night, my council colleagues and I voted to allow a 14-month lease extension to Angels Baseball, keeping the team in Angel Stadium through the 2020 season and allowing both sides to work together on a new long-term agreement.
I give credit to Mayor Harry Sidhu for reaching out to the Angels to bring them back to the table, and I thank him for bringing this item forward.
I'm looking forward to this fresh start in negotiations to keep the Angels in Anaheim. I'm so proud to be a part of this process, and am confident that we will craft a deal that benefits not only the team, but the taxpayers and residents of our city as well.
As I stated at last night's council meeting, this a complex negotiation with many stakeholders. Our residents deserve a process that's transparent, and this extension is prudent and allows for that. My goal is to negotiate for a win, win, win that puts the residents first, then the city and the team.
