Our first meeting of the new Town Council accomplished many steps toward slowing development and defining what is needed to Keep Juno Beach, Juno Beach. Some of the items below need an ordinance to implement and two readings (i.e., two more Town Council meetings). Positive progress at the April 1st meeting included:
- Moratorium on mixed-use in our Commercial Areas, while we work on the development of a Master Plan (6 – 9 mos.)
- Prohibit private meetings with Developers by decision-makers on Town Council and Planning & Zoning – hold public meetings instead
- Increase parking requirements for new multi-family and commercial projects to mirror the Town of Palm Beach's code
- Discussion by Council to direct staff that we are a slow growth community
- Agreement that Planning and Zoning can set their own agendas
- Preference in our purchasing policy to favor made in USA, made in FLA, and environmentally friendly products
- Scheduled Town Council "Goal Setting" workshop on May 20th
- Make-up for the missed March meeting with 2 meetings and a workshop in April, and with 2 meetings and a workshop in May.
Thank you to all the citizens who made public comments. You voiced disappointment with the negative electioneering and the dark money of Political Action Committees impacting our election. Hopefully, those responsible for bringing this toxicity into our Town will have heard the public's disdain and will refrain in future elections.
We have opportunities for improvement to move our Town forward. Let's work together to define and prioritize the important issues, and to create beneficial solutions.
Looking forward, we have our first baby-steps toward the creation of a Master Plan for our Town. A scoping workshop meeting is set for Monday, April 8th at 3pm.
