Greetings!
Lawanna is a survivor.
At just two years old, she arrived at the shelter when her owner could no longer provide the care she needed. When the call came in, the owner explained: “My cat is very sick, and she has been blind since birth.”
Needing immediate help, Lawanna was transported to WCHS by a local Animal Control Officer.
When her carrier was opened, she wobbled out carefully—unsteady on all four paws—trying to understand her surroundings through vibration alone.
Not only is Lawanna blind, she is also deaf.
Her condition is most likely caused by cerebellar hypoplasia (CH), a neurological condition often linked to in-utero exposure to the feline panleukopenia virus (FPV) during the final weeks of pregnancy or early in kittenhood.
The fact that she survived kittenhood at all is nothing short of remarkable.
You might expect a cat with so many neurological challenges to retreat from the world but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
She loves to walk and explore. Our team simply makes sure her path is clear and safe. We use scents to help her orient herself, and most importantly—she loves to eat.
Despite her wobbly, tippy steps, she meets life with curiosity and determination every single day.
After her spay surgery, she spent ONLY 1 DAY in the adoption room before her family visited WCHS, and it was love at first sight.
They have no other pets, and are so excited to love her and all of her uniqueness.
We hope you have a wonderful, wobbly life, Lawanna!
