Over the last few days, our three kids made their way home from college, law school and a job. While Joan and I are technically empty nesters, given that all three have years left of college (yes, the one with the job is going to law school next year), our home still gets plenty of activity, especially since apparently the only working washing machine in America is in our house.

This is the season to be thankful for all our blessings, the most important of which, for me, is my family. But I am also thankful for so much more, including my friends, my co-workers and colleagues, a community that has entrusted me with this position of leadership, and a Nation that protects the freedoms I cherish.

Whether you are in the midst of Hanukkah, or about to celebrate Christmas or other holidays, this week is a time to inventory all for which we are grateful. All the features that give our lives meaning. So, enjoy this week, my best to your family, and have a great new year!

I have some laundry to do.
