GLC - - - Connects!
April 3, 2020
A Holy Week like no other?  I’m hearing a lot about this being a Holy Week like no other, but I happen to not agree. THIS -- uncertainty, fear, longing -- all evidence of truly Holy Weeks…starting with the first one. At the heart of all Holy Weeks is sacrifice. Which simply means to make holy. Not for God’s sake, but for ours. Where is God calling you to sacrifice…to make of the ordinary, holy? My prayer is that this Holy Week is not like others that become just another week, but we accept the invitation to offer up our lives anew to God.  Holy and mighty God, you hold all things in your hands. Holy Week teaches us how your Son Jesus lived this trust. Help us to follow in His way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Our finance team is keeping a close eye on things and working on a variety of projections for our income as we enter a period of uncertainty. The one thing we can’t know is how all of this is affecting your ability to support the congregation. Please know how all of you are in our prayers as you help your kids do school, you do work and we worship in different ways. We know that at least some of you are on furlough or working reduced hours, while others are busier than ever. If you are able to keep up your current giving, please do so. Over the next few weeks, we will share greetings from our council on how they’re navigating their work and their giving in these days.
Today we hear from Katie Bailey:

"Right now my feelings and emotions have been a mixed bag. On one hand, we’re lucky enough that Greg usually works from home and all of his teaching work, including overseas, will be done remotely (next assignment, teaching students in Stockholm in their time zone 😳). Ben has remote learning in the morning and we usually do some kind of outdoor activity, weather permitting, in the afternoon. I’m giving myself some grace because God knows I’m not a teacher and there have been many times I’ve felt very defeated in the parent/teacher realm. We have gotten into some kind of groove and I’m so grateful for that.
But, on the other hand, as a small business owner, I feel very much in limbo. I have no idea when I will be reopening my doors. Many of my clients said I’ll need garden shears to tame their locks when it’s time for them to get their hair done again! So it’s a “wait and see” moment. It’s hard.

Through all of this I've been reminded me of my need/passion for other people and how I took the ability to go out to see friends, my congregation, my parents, all for granted! When we return to our new normal I’ll be so excited to see all of your smiling and welcoming faces at GLC and because I know that we can’t be there physically to support the church every Sunday, I will continue to make our monetary donation online. This is a constant (we have it set up on repeat giving so we don’t forget!) and through that support I know my GLC family and the ELCA will contribute to support my family and I.

Stay healthy and many blessings,"

Katie, GLC Council Member

While we shelter in place and social distance, we understand some people would prefer not to leave their homes to make a trip to the grocery store or pharmacy. We've had several people from the congregation offer to run errands for those who are most susceptible or for parents who are at home with young children. If you are in need of help , please do not hesitate to contact Pastor Trudy or Julie Slifka #generouslifeinChrist
We lift up in prayer
  • The Danly family

  • The healthcare workers
  • The people who are struggling with anxiety in this crisis
  • The people who have lost jobs
