Reflecting on our achievements in 2019
and 2020 goals

  • Our "Come Together for Dufferin" granting event brought community members, donors and grant recipients together for a celebration of "the power of many" What legacy can your family leave behind ?
  • Generous community members stepped forward to sponsor our granting program. These "mini-grants" bring profile to the charities we support while we focus on building endowment funds.
  • A dedicated community awareness and social media campaign helped increase our Founders Circle membership and the number and value of gifts received.
  • Corporate Circle members endorsed our initiative. Special thanks to the Lord Dufferin Centre for ongoing support.
  • A successful year end giving campaign helped fund start up costs of legal and accounting which can be significant in the first few years.
  • Through the generosity of our donors, we have over $500,000 in funds under management, on our way to achieving an ambitious goal of 10 million in 10 years.
  • By developing a successful grant management program and review team, we reached more charities and increased the number of grant applications received. A grant writing workshop for charities is in the planning stages.
  • In partnership with Community Foundations of Canada and the RBC Foundation, we granted an additional $15,000 to two deserving youth projects. As part of our commitment to Dufferin County youth, we will be hosting a Youth Conversation event in April.

We received our first donor-advised fund; a simple, tax-smart investment account
for charitable giving.
Large endowed gifts are often named for a donor's family or in memory of a loved one. A donor-advised fund within a community foundation, allows the donor to enjoy the benefits of a private foundation and avoid many of the downsides. Each endowed fund is pooled with other investments, then invested together to ensure the highest rate of return possible. The Dufferin Community Foundation manages the annual distribution to the requested charities, as outlined by the donor in the initial fund agreement.

Opening the Greenwood Family Fund within the Dufferin Community Foundation allows us to directly support Dufferin County charities close to our heart – for the long term. We know that our donation will enhance the quality of life of where we live, work and play for future generations”
