Greetings Stumpies and Families,

Winter break is nearing and residential instruction will conclude on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. We are prepping for a seamless semester break move-out. After residents leave Centennial Hall for Thanksgiving, they will not be permitted to return to Centennial Hall until January 2021. The longer semester break and the need to follow health guidelines will make this year’s move-out process different from previous years. We hope this advance information will help with planning. Please review the following information carefully for important requirements and deadlines.

Important Information & Deadlines

  • All residents must register for a designated move-out time to allow for social distancing. Register for a move-out time at https://centenwintermoveout.youcanbook.me
  • All ESF students who use on-campus facilities will be required to receive a negative COVID-19 test result no more than 10 days before departing campus. Testing is necessary to help prevent community spread of the virus as students return to hometowns. More information on pre-departure virus testing will be shared as soon as available.
  • 11/9 - 11/20: Advising for Spring 2021 semester
  • 11/24: Last day of residential instruction
  • 11/20 - 11/25: Residential move-out period
  • 11/25, 2:00 p.m.: Centennial Hall closes for Winter break
  • 12/7: Spring course registration begins

Move-Out Procedures

·        Register for a move-out time at https://centenwintermoveout.youcanbook.me
·        Register for a COVID-19 test. The College will notify students when the testing schedule becomes available. A negative test result is required before students can leave campus.
  • Residents will have a maximum of 2 hours to move-out for the Winter break.
  • 1 guest will be allowed to assist residents during move-out.
  • Residents must check-out at the front desk before leaving for the semester to ensure that negative test results have been received. Failure to complete the exit COVID-19 testing and check-out process as required may result in fines and/or a registration hold.

Withdrawing From ESF

Students who do not plan to return to ESF for the Spring 2021 semester will be allowed up to 4 hours to move-out and may be assisted by 1 guest. These students should contact the Office of Student Affairs (315-470-6660 or [email protected].) to complete the College withdrawal process. When leaving Centennial Hall, check-out at the front desk, return all keys, and complete the room condition report.

Extenuating Circumstances

We understand there may be extenuating circumstances that require some residents to remain in Centennial Hall during the Winter break. To remain in Centennial Hall for any part of Winter break – due to housing insecurity or other unavoidable circumstances – please contact [email protected] before November 20, 2020, to discuss circumstances and options.

Before Departing - Resident To-Do List

A Winter break Checklist, which explains all the steps residents must complete within their space, will be taped to residence hall doors as a reminder. Once completed, the last roommate leaving for break should sign the sheet indicating all tasks are complete.

In addition, given the extended break we ask that residents please pack as follows:
o   Items that must be taken - all electronics (including chargers), travel documentation and identification, enough clothing for the entirety of break, perishable items, medications, all valuables, coursework, and academic supplies.
o   Items that are suggested to take - toiletries, sporting equipment, summer clothes
o   Items that can remain in Centennial Hall - bedding, decor, bathroom supplies

Once residents check-out of Centennial Hall for the Winter break, they will not be permitted to return to the building until move-in for the Spring 2021 semester.

What to Expect in Spring 2021

Planning for spring residential instruction is in progress. We look forward to welcoming CenTen residents back to the residence hall in January. As of this date, we do not anticipate offering an opt-out option for the Spring 2021 semester. We are pleased with the low incidence of the virus in Central New York. Further, we are proud of the willingness our students have shown to adhere to health and safety guidelines, and we truly want our students to embrace the full ESF experience. We will continue to monitor the situation, but are excited to see our Stumpies in January. An email with detailed instruction for the spring semester move-in process will be sent via email.
Best wishes for a great break,
Kimberly Max
