Register by Wednesday to secure your seat.
One of the most anticipated parts of The Celebration: A Feast of Goodwill & Connection is the surprise musical production. In the past, it’s been everything from Gershwin to Beatles–and this year’s theme is a closely held secret.
We’re already expecting 300 St. James’sers but there’s plenty of room–and desire–for more of you to come to this exciting night of fine dining, open wine & beer bar, entertainment, and the company of friends new and old.
The deadline to register is this coming Wednesday, October 19.
Here’s where you register and tell us which entree you want. It’s also where you can make a voluntary donation to this otherwise free event.
And we need volunteers to help the night of The Celebration, sign up here.
You can also sign up in the Narthex this Sunday morning.

Meet this Sunday’s
Adult Forum Guest,
Bill Martin
The format for our Adult Forums this fall is to invite a new guest to be interviewed each Sunday around the idea of “The Power of Community.” This Sunday’s guest is Bill Martin, Director of the Valentine Museum in Richmond.
Bill joined the Valentine Museum in 1994 as Director of Marketing and Public Relations, following years of experience as the director of museums in Georgia, Florida and Virginia. In 1995, he was promoted to the position of Executive Director. Under his steady leadership, the institution has successfully completed two capital campaigns, raising more than $10 million; undergone significant name and brand changes and greatly increased and diversified its programming. Bill is also active in the community, serving on numerous boards, committees and task forces in support of the health and diversity of the Greater Richmond region.
Bill will be talking with us about “the power of understanding and claiming our history” as he talks about the work he does at the Valentine Museum.

St. James’s is
now accepting nominations
for the 2023 Vestry Class.
All confirmed members of
St. James’s are eligible to be nominated. And our goal is to have the Vestry continue to represent as wide a range of parishioners as possible, including both new and long-time members. It’s also important to find Vestry members with a range of talents and interests.
As you think about who you might nominate, consider folks who can bring the imagination, focus and dedication required for this essential position. And, yes, a previous Vestry member can serve again.
Please do your best to provide the following information about each of your nominees:
- Name
- Nominated By
- Age Range
- Relevant Work
- Why you think your nominee would be a good choice

Meet the women
in the REAL LIFE program.
this Sunday, October 16
REAL LIFE is one of our primary outreach partners. To strengthen our partnership, we're having a cookout and picnic with the women in the REAL LIFE program on Sunday, October 16 at 1pm.
This is a great way to be a DOER.
Come to the Carillon Shelter at Byrd Park to enjoy food, lawn games, and fellowship–plus the powerful opportunity to engage with and get to know our neighbors in a "ministry with" model versus "ministry for." All ages are welcome!

St. James's Annual Giving
Thanks to everyone who has already made your 2023 annual pledge. We’re on the way to having a successful pledge campaign.
For those of you who wonder why we’re so focused on pledging, the reason is simple: Knowing how much our parish plans to give to the church empowers us to plan with confidence for the upcoming year. And it’s only by receiving your pledges that we can have a true sense of how generous the congregation will be.
To know more about the value of pledging go here.

Sunday Flower Delivery Ministry
St. James’s is bringing back one of the ministries that was a victim of the pandemic–the Sunday Flower Delivery Ministry! This lovely ministry helps St. James’s fulfill its mission by delivering flowers used in the Sunday services to various parishioners who may be sick, homebound, or celebrating special life events.
As a volunteer you can select which Sundays you want to deliver flowers.
Four flower arrangements go out each Sunday, so we’re hoping for two volunteers per Sunday. Flowers are ready for delivery any time after 12:30 p.m. and before 5:00 p.m. A card containing the recipient’s name and address will accompany the flowers
If you are interested in helping us with this thoughtful and joyful ministry, please sign up here. For more information contact Donna Ellis at dellis@doers.org.

The easy way to
order your Name Tag.
The church will now happily make a permanent name tag for you, complete with a plastic holder that has your choice of a magnet attacher or a pin/clip.
You can always find the link to order your Name Tag under Connect on the nav bar on the home page of doers.org.
And, yes, you can order a new one if you lose your old one.
