It is with great pleasure that I address to you my first message as Consul General of Mexico in Austin, Texas. Appointed by President Enrique Pe?a Nieto, I assumed this post on May 1st, 2015, after serving for six years as Consul General of Mexico in Sacramento, California.
In this new challenge, my priority will be to bring the Consulate closer to my fellow nationals by providing the support and assistance they may need with high quality standards.
I will work to strengthen relations between Mexico and Texas, as well as to bring together our communities. Texas is home to 2.4 million immigrants born in Mexico, and almost a third of Texas' population is of Mexican origin. Mexico is also Texas' largest market: In 2014 Texas posted merchandise exports of over 100 billion dollars to Mexico.
Given that the three branches of Texas' government are based in Austin, this Consulate will keep track of its activities, in particular when Mexico or our fellow nationals are involved. For that reason, I will engage in constructive dialogues with public servants and state congressmen, always respecting Texas' domestic politics.
I would also like to use this opportunity to cordially invite you to visit the Consulate, which will always maintain open doors to all Mexican nationals and friends of Mexico in Austin and Texas. I look forward to working with you.
