Hello Lab School Community Members!
I hope you all had peaceful and restorative holidays and that this letter finds you enjoying the start of 2020. Speaking of transitions… I am writing to share an update from the Head of School Transition Committee.
I am grateful to the following members of our community, who have graciously agreed to serve with me on this committee: Board Member Linda Fisher; Parents Katrina Holliday and Regan Ruiz; Faculty/Staff members Noel Bicknell, Marty Cathcart, Diana Meltzer, Amy Oswalt, Amanda Palmer, Amal Saade, Katherine Schantz, Jewell Watson-Hellkamp, and Melissa Wood.
Our committee has a two-part focus. We will help our incoming Head of School Kim Wargo get to know Lab better, and help Lab’s constituents get to know Kim better. Secondly, we will help plan how our community will honor and say farewell to our esteemed Head of School Katherine Schantz. While we plan for those, we are keeping in mind that Kim will still be in her current role, which will need most of her attention, prior to her July 1 start at Lab, and Katherine will still be our current Head of School through June.
In my conversations with Kim, it is apparent that she is thrilled to be joining us this summer, and is eager to begin preparing for the transition. I know our community is also eager to get to know her better and see, as our Search Committee saw, the wonderful qualities she brings to her role as our next leader.
I am happy to announce that she will be visiting Lab around the February 1 PALS Chili Cook Off! Kim, and her husband, Mark Cortez, who is also an educator, will attend the event, and they both look forward to meeting our families. Prior to that evening, she will spend time on Friday, Jan. 31 in each division at Lab, and on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 30 with some administrators. I will follow up with more details.
Please feel free to reach out to me or any committee member with questions.
Be Well and Happy 2020,
Chair of the Head of School Transition Committee
