A MESSAGE FROM THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR
Dear community,

Today the winners of the Institute of Museum and Library Services National Medal were announced. While RCPL is not one of the three winners this year, we are humbled to be in the company of the winning libraries: Cabell County Public Library, Highwood Public Library and Memphis Public Libraries. We wish them our sincere congratulations for the recognition of their exceptional service.

Being named one of 15 library finalists in the United States, and the only one in California, for this prestigious award was a terrific feat in itself, and we have tons to be proud of. The work that RCPL has accomplished leading up to the pandemic, during the pandemic, and as we’re emerging from the pandemic has made a tremendous difference in the lives of so many community members.

During our “Share Your RCPL Story” day a couple weeks ago, over 20 community partners provided videos highlighting how much they love working with the Library. If you haven’t seen those yet, they are available on the Library’s YouTube channel here. We also heard from dozens of library customers who shared their appreciation for our creative, meaningful, and impactful services.

I remain so proud of the work of this incredible Library team, and I am honored to serve this community. As we’ve learned more than ever in the past year, we have more work to do, new services to explore and great challenges to meet with our characteristic creativity, can-do spirit and passion for equity in our service. We are, after all, a National Medal Finalist library.

Your Library Director,
Derek Wolfgram
RCPL BEES WON AN AWARD
In good award news, at last week's California Library Association annual conference, our RCPL Bees won a PRExcellence Award. The PRExcellence Awards honor the highest quality efforts of California libraries in promoting and communicating their message to their customers. Of the Bees, an Award Committee member said: "This is a really fun and fresh idea. If bees are living on the library roof under the care of a Master Beekeeper, why not brand it and sell the honey? Why not make those busy bees contribute to literacy and the library community, too?"

If you aren't following them, go follow along at RCPL Bees for bee related happenings and Friends of the Redwood City Public Library honey sale announcements.
