In response to President Trump’s declaration that places of worship are “essential operations” and should reopen immediately, I am asking our church leadership to refer to the questions in Appendix A in Phase 2 of the Phased Return to Increasing In-Person Parish Life document mailed out earlier today, May 22, 2020, and come to their individual judgment based on the moral imperative to protect others and the ability to follow the guidelines.
Please know that it is permissible — and in many cases preferable — for congregations to continue to worship remotely, either using their own method of live-streaming or benefiting from the online services of other congregations.
I hope this will clarify the confusion around the issue of safe regathering for worship. However, please do not hesitate to contact either Canon John Johanssen at [email protected] or Carine de Lange at [email protected] if you have questions.
Blessings,
The Rt. Rev. Thomas E. Breidenthal
Bishop of Southern Ohio
Attached are the revised planning guidelines that will guide us as we prepare for a phased approach to reopening our buildings.
PLEASE NOTE: These guidelines only apply to the Diocese of Southern Ohio and should not be confused with the Diocese of Ohio or any other diocese.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns about this document please contact Operations Executive Carine de Lange or Canon to the Ordinary John Johanssen.
