Dear Y Members,
As you know, and in response to these very difficult times, The Granite YMCA has made a decision to close its facilities to help reduce the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus. We have been overwhelmed with support from members for our decision. We know how difficult this is for many of our members and we are grateful to all of you for your support.

In true YMCA fashion, though our facilities are closed, we are not lying idle. All 600 employees are eligible to work while we are closed and they are creating innovative opportunities to support our members and families as well as our community at large. For our members, we are creating live virtual group exercise classes, fitness and strength training sessions, personal training sessions, cooking classes, nutrition plans, and videos to help you stay healthy and well during this time of social isolation. Our partners in fitness, MOSSA and Les Mils, are offering free group exercise classes for YMCA members and you can access those classes through our web page.

In addition, our child care staff are creating activities for families at home to help keep kids healthy and to support the virtual curriculum that schools are developing. Our YSTAY teachers are continuing to hold class via the web every day so those students do not fall behind. Staff are also working on cleaning and sprucing up child care spaces to prepare for when children are able to return to the Y.

We have evaluated our Y resources, and creatively working to put them to use to better our community’s situation. We are supporting schools and communities by helping to deliver food and supplies to families and elders who need it and loaning our busses and drivers to communities as they are needed.

How You Can Help!
In order for us to continue to provide this support to our members, families, and community, we need your help! Your membership helps to fund this work, and so we ask all of you to sustain your membership with our Y. Our care for each other, our sense of belonging, our commitment to community, our values, have always made membership at the Y different than membership anywhere else. Our cause – to strengthen the foundations of community – means that membership goes far beyond a service in return. It is the recognition that we are all in this together and that your continued support helps us ensure that everyone can develop to their fullest potential. Please, if you can, help us continue our work and keep your membership active.

We also know that for some of you, there are tremendous hardships ahead. If you need to put your membership on hold or would prefer another arrangement, we will help with that too. Please contact our membership team at [email protected].

Lastly, we established a COVID-19 Information and Resource Page at www.graniteymca.org  where you will find the latest information relevant to Y members and families, as well as links to each branch Facebook page, where you will be able to access all of the videos and resources for members.

Thank you all for being a part of the Y family and for your ongoing support! You mean so much to us and we look forward to a day in the future when we can all be together again.

Sincerely,

David Ports
