Newsletter - January 2025

Dear Sisters, dear Brothers, dear Fathers and dear friends of Solidarity with South Sudan, we are pleased to announce that Fr Hyacinthe Loua, SJ, has been appointed as the new Executive Director of Solidarity with South Sudan for a period of three years, beginning in April 2025.

P. Loua brings great experience and expertise to this role. A Jesuit priest born in Guinea, he holds advanced degrees, including a doctorate in systematic theology and history, a master's degree in sociology of development and a certificate in conflict mediation and prevention. His professional career has been marked by leadership roles such as Jesuit Provincial Superior in West Africa and Director of the Centre de Recherche et d'Action pour la Paix (CERAP), where he also serves as President of CERAP-Jesuit University in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.

Father Loua has extensive experience in humanitarian work and civil society organisation, including his involvement with Inades-Formation, an institution focused on rural development and the fight against malnutrition, and with CEFOD in Chad, where he supported farmers and political leaders. In addition, his pastoral ministry includes service to Sudanese refugees and visits to Christian communities in South Sudan, confirming his deep commitment to supporting marginalised populations. Known for his dynamic leadership, honesty and sociability, Fr Loua is highly skilled in management, organisational strategy and interfaith dialogue. His dedication to promoting peace and reconciliation in African societies makes him particularly suited to lead Solidarity with South Sudan in its next chapter.

We are grateful to Fr. Loua for his willingness to take on this important mission and are confident that his leadership will be a blessing to our community.

A journey of encounters and renewed commitment

Emanuela and Alice, two members of the Solidarity with South Sudan staff from the Fundraising and Communication Office in Rome, have just returned from an extraordinary experience: two intense weeks in South Sudan, discovering the projects and the Solidarity team. They got to know personally the teams at work in the various projects and had the opportunity to talk to the beneficiaries of the activities: students, women, teachers, bringing home a wealth of stories and exceptional humanity...
