MY ITEM OF THE WEEK...
If this piece could speak, the stories it could tell!
This buffet and hutch were purchased in France by our client in the late 1980's and shipped to Canada.--It is a fine example of an 18th century vaisselier or presentation buffet made by a master craftsman in Normandy between 1765 - 1780.--Constructed of hand hewn walnut, the buffet is pegged together and has never been altered in any way.
This cabinet would have graced a principle room in a wealthy landowner's home to signal the family's prestige.--Between the upper drawers is an inlaid star or "stella maris", a divine talisman meant to keep the home and union safe from harm.
This piece is full of similar symbolism and is truly an exceptional fragment of history!
