From the Desk of Dr. Heather
I couldn't have asked for a better job. I love what I do and look forward to coming in to work each and every day. Seeing our pet patients, meeting their owners and conferring with their family veterinarian are the most gratifying aspects of owning and operating Animal Vision Center of Virginia. It's hard to believe, but our practice turns three this year. Since 2015, we have covered a lot of ground - from initially getting to know you through our mobile-based practice, to opening the doors of our Virginia Beach center. As the practice has grown, we've rolled out new programs to meet your needs, such as our Lunch & Learn continuing education series for veterinarians; eye screening exams for service animals and pets residing in local assisted living facilities; and our new telemedicine consultations, which you will read about in this issue. Now that we're officially "three," we'd like for you to help us celebrate! Please join us on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. for a fun-filled afternoon on the lawn with refreshments, games, cake (in both animal and human varieties) and tons of four-legged fun for your pets! Check out all the details below. We know how important your animals are to you, and we are committed to providing the highest quality ophthalmic care for them. Thank you for choosing us!
With kind regards,

Save a Trip with Our New Telemedicine Consultations
You don't always have to travel to us for an ocular evaluation. Animal Vision Center of Virginia is now offering remote telemedicine consultations and triage assessments for our veterinary partners and existing clients and pet patients. Using the TeleVet mobile app, you can participate in a two-way consultation appointment in real time with Dr. Heather Brookshire. This service is ideal for our veterinary partners when working with urgent cases, a difficult diagnosis, a second opinion, and for the convenience of practices located in far away or rural areas. For our existing clients, telemedicine is an option for pets that don't travel well or become anxious away from home.
Details about our telemedicine consultations are featured on our website. Take a look, and let us know how we can help.

A Note from the Staff - Congratulations Dr. Heather!
This month, our own Dr. Heather Brookshire was named to
Inside Business
magazine's prestigious listing of "Forty Under 40" business leaders succeeding in diverse professions in Hampton Roads. Like the other Class of 2018 members, she was selected for her leadership skills, innovation, business achievements and community service involvement.
As you may know, Dr. Heather is one of the region's only veterinary ophthalmologists, and she gives 100 percent to assuring that the needs of her pet patients are met, as well as making the practice a supportive and fun home away from home for the staff. In addition, she devotes a great deal of her spare time to animal-related causes by providing ocular care for service, rescue and wildlife animals throughout the region. So, heartfelt congratulations to our boss! We're so proud of you.
All the best, Melissa, Emily, Allyson,Veronica, Amari and Ashlyn

"Dinner & Discovery" at Norfolk Zoo
We've had a lot of fun planning our final vets-only event of the year - a special presentation at the Norfolk Zoo. If you are one of our referring veterinary partners, please join us on Friday, Nov. 16 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. for our "Vision in Animals" presentation, with a special private viewing of the reptile exhibit from 5:30 - 6:00 p.m. We couldn't think of a better setting to take an evolutionary look at animal vision and how the eye has adapted to different environments over time. We are pleased to present these free accredited classes for our local veterinarians and their registered technical staff. Please RSVP by Nov. 9 to
