2022-23 at First Pres

for children and youth!

Kim and I are so excited to welcome your children and youth into the 2022-23 year at First Pres. So we can be sure we are planning for enough adult leaders for all we want to do, we ask *you* to complete a single Child/Youth Information Form for all your kids and turn it in to the office before Friday, September 2.

This form covers a lot of ground to help us prepare well for your children, including allergies and intolerances as well as letting us know if you are enrolling your child(ren) in any of the following:

  • the Nursery (birth through age 2)

Care is provided from 9:00-11:00 AM in the nursery room on the north side of the first floor of the Christian Education wing.

(the most direct path is to walk through Social Hall toward Maple Avenue, climb the stairs and turn right, and then up a few more stairs)

  • Pre-K (ages 3-4)

Care is provided 9:00-11:00 AM in the Pre-K room on the east side of the first floor of the Christian Education wing, and will often include components from our Pre-K portion of the Follow Me curriculum (see below).

(the most direct path is to walk through the double doors at the end of the north hall along the outside of the sanctuary, turn right up a few stairs, and then through one more set of double doors)

  • Follow Me (best suited for Pre-K and older)

This all-ages Sunday School experience happens from 9:00-9:45 AM most Sundays (main location TBD); the first week of each unit of the Follow Me curriculum will be entirely all ages and subsequent weeks in a unit will include time to break out into age groups by Pre-K, lower elementary, upper elementary, middle school, and adults with high schoolers. While there are themes for about 4 weeks, each week is something new so drop in for one or all!

(the breakout rooms for those Sundays are located on the second floor of the Christian Education wing are are well-marked)

  • Kids' Church (ages 4-4th Grade)

This adapted worship service happens from about 10:20-11:00 AM and gathers in the newly dedicated Kids' Church space of rooms 204 & 205 on the east side of the second floor of the Christian Education wing (renovations still in progress at the time of this writing); this time helps kids become familiar with the motions of worship and why we do what we do so that, when they feel ready to sit through worship in the sanctuary or the chapel, they'll feel right at home and have an understanding of what happens as we worship God together.

(the most direct path is to walk through the double doors at the end of the north hall along the outside of the sanctuary, go up one-and-a-half flights of stairs, and then through one more set of double doors)

  • Confirmation (8th and 9th graders invited, and older grades welcome)

If you have an 8th or 9th grader, you should have received an invitation for them to join us in Confirmation this year (if not, contact Nicole directly). Most days Confirmation will happen in the Youth Education Room (formerly the Crib & Care Room) and all class locations are clearly indicated in the Confirmation Parent/Mentor Guide that will be provided when we meet from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM on Sunday, August 28, in Social Hall.

(the most direct path is to walk through Social Hall toward Maple Avenue, climb the stairs and turn right, and then up a few more stairs and to the east end of the hall)

  • JHF (6th-8th grade)

Many Sundays from 4:00-5:30 PM, 6th-8th graders will meet in the Youth Lounge for time for fun, support, and community. Occasional outside service events, retreats, and playful events are also scheduled. A separate schedule will be sent out to JHF families with more details.

(the most direct path is to walk through Social Hall toward Maple Avenue, climb the stairs and turn left, go through the glass door, and go down the stairs through the wood door closest to the outside)

  • SHF (9th-12th grade)

Many Sundays from 7:00-9:00 PM, 9th-12th graders will meet in the Youth Lounge for time for fun, support, and community. Occasional outside service events, retreats, and playful events are also scheduled. A separate schedule will be sent out to SHF families with more details.

(the most direct path is to walk through Social Hall toward Maple Avenue, climb the stairs and turn left, go through the glass door, and go down the stairs through the wood door closest to the outside)

Also Coming This Fall!

Third Grade Bible Presentation

Families of third graders are invited to sign up their children here to receive a third grade Bible in the sanctuary on Sunday, November 13, and then stay after worship for an "How to Read Your Bible" luncheon for kids and their families.

Intro to Worship

We're planning a brief program to help first graders (and those who may have missed this intro during the earlier pandemic years) learn about the basics of worship. From liturgical colors to "How does communion even work?" we'll cover the basics in what worship is all about. Interested in learning more as details develop? Sign up here for updates.

First through Third Friends

Once a quarter we'll gather first through third graders for a social event to help them build community and make church friends. If you would be interested in your young one attending, please help us figure out the best times to do this by completing this brief survey.

Fourth and Fifth Fellowship

Once a quarter we'll help fourth and fifth graders begin to get into the regular rhythm of fellowship together in preparation for moving up to JHF and eventually SHF. If you would be interested in your upper elementary student being part of this, please help us figure out the best times to do this by completing this brief survey.

Youth Discipleship Group

Kim will be leading a group for youth to take time to intentionally be with one another and explore various spiritual practices. Any interested youth are invited to take this poll to help us find the best time to do this.

Want to Shape the JHF/SHF Events?

Last, we are looking for JHF and SHF youth who would like to help shape what happens at JHF and SHF this year. We've intentionally not planned out every Sunday on the calendar so that the year could really belong to the youth. We'd like to meet to make plans during the week of August 28th. If your youth is interested, please have them email Nicole or text her at 847-239-2013.

We're also looking for JHF and SHF students to help plan and carry out a few fun things for the younger kids on our Rally Day Kick-Off on Sunday, September 11. Same thing - week of August 28th; email Nicole or text her at 847-239-2013.
