Dear MJC Community,

Although no cases of Coronavirus have been identified in our community, we aware of the serious nature of the disease, and as always we consider the safety and security of our community members of utmost importance.

Please know that our cleaning procedures in the Preschool, Hebrew School and synagogue building are comprehensive and every classroom and bathroom are cleaned and sanitized daily.  Additionally, we will be making some small changes in an effort to improve hygienic practices during communal eating times: we will be placing hand sanitizer near the food tables for oneg and kiddush (although washing hands with soap and water is always preferred!), we will cease setting out communal food bowls (such as bowls of pretzels or chips) that require people to take with their hands, and we will make sure to set out serving utensils for people to use instead of their own forks/spoons.

Below are the recommendations of the CDC for prevention of the Coronavirus for your review.  These recommendations hold true for other viruses as well, including the flu. Please help all of us by adhering to the recommendations, and talking to your children and family members about the following:

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, multiple times throughout the day.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with tissues or, if unavailable, with your elbow, arm or sleeve.
  • Do not send your children to Preschool, Hebrew School or any synagogue program if they are sick. If students are sent to school when sick, they will be sent home.
  • Sick individuals should stay at home for at least 24 hours after the cessation of symptoms or the absence of a fever, without the use of fever-reducing medication.
  • Be sure to use serving utensils rather than your hands when taking food.

CDC RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PREVENTION
of CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)

There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

  • Stay home when you are sick.

  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

  • Follow CDC's recommendations for using a facemask.

    • CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.

    • Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

    • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.
