Dear Juniors and their Families,
I know many of you are anxiously awaiting the kick-off of the college process. We are also excited about getting to know you, hearing your stories, and helping you navigate the next steps.
Junior College Night is on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 7-9 p.m. in Bradley Hall. This is a required event for all juniors, and junior parents/guardians are expected to attend as well.
A few notes about the event:
- Our guest speaker will be Ryan Hargraves, Executive Director of Admission at the University of Vermont.
- This is a no-homework night for juniors.
- There will be pizza available for students at the conclusion of Afternoon Activities in the VPAC lobby.
- We will schedule individual meetings after Junior College Night, meeting first with students and then with parents/guardians.
All Beaver students who took the PSAT this year (and who wrote their email address correctly on their test form) should have received/will receive an email about their new scores by the end of the day today. The email gives instructions for accessing scores through the
College Board website
. For the vast majority of students, the process of accessing scores should be quite smooth.
Students who did not/do not receive an email are able to access their scores by either (1.) logging into an already existing College Board account, which all juniors should already have set up when they received PSAT scores last year or (2.) creating a College Board account and following the instructions to "get scores."
When we receive hard-copy reports from the College Board, we will mail them to you along with the student's actual answer booklet from the test.
We will be discussing standardized tests and the timing for these tests extensively as we move forward in this process. Most students will begin taking these tests later in the winter and early spring. A typical timeline would be to try both an SAT and an ACT sometime earlier in 2019 (February-April), then plan to retest in May/June or over the summer.
We will activate Naviance accounts for all students and parents in December, immediately before winter break.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly via phone or email if you have any questions about any of this.
