Dear MTC students,

This week marks the end of a semester like we have never seen before. On behalf of the Midlands Technical College Commission, the college's board of trustees, I congratulate you on making it this far and wish you the best over these final days. With exams starting on Wednesday, I want to offer you words of encouragement from one of our state's ancestors.

Mary McLeod Bethune was born near Sumter in 1875. A child of slaves, she grew up on a cotton farm and went on to become an educator, philanthropist, civil rights leader, and advisor to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Her words to young people feel particularly appropriate right now.

"To those of you with your years of service still ahead, the challenge is yours. Stop doubting yourselves. Have the courage to make up your minds and hold your decisions."
— Mary McLeod Bethune

Ms. Bethune was right. You can do this!
