Dear Sewall's Point Friends & Neighbors

One of the historical gems of our special community is the Kiplinger Family's Bay Tree Lodge on South River Road, nestled on the ridge overlooking the St. Lucie River above its iconic boathouse. We are fortunate to list the Kiplingers among our Town's founding families. Their history and that of Sewall's Point are colorfully intertwined. Knight Kiplinger asked me to share his endorsement below and I am honored to do so.

Dear Sewall’s Point Neighbor:

Four generations of my family have been privileged to live and vacation on Sewall’s Point since 1952--five years before our community established its own local government, the Town of Sewall’s Point. Like all our neighbors, we have benefited from the wonderful quality of life—safety, rising property values, protection of the environment and civic pride—that our local officials have fostered. I am grateful to all our current town commissioners for continuing this tradition. That’s why I support Frank Fender, Kaija Mayfield and John Tompeck for reelection.

They and their fellow commissioners, Vinny Barile and Dave Kurzman, have prioritized things we all care about, such as protecting water quality in the Indian River lagoon, reducing flooding on S. Sewall’s Point Road and keeping our community safe and beautiful. Good government doesn’t come cheap, but our commissioners have fostered administrative efficiency and have been skilled at finding outside funding, such as state grants, that help us accomplish our local goals without an undue burden on us TSP taxpayers.

They’ve also done an admirable job of keeping us informed of their plans, soliciting our ideas and achieving compromises between opposing points of view. Those compromises entail balancing individual property rights with broader community interests—never easy, often acrimonious, but essential to democracy.

Commissioners Fender, Mayfield and Tompeck have all done this, each in his or her own distinctive way. Holding elective office at the local level is often a thankless task, so I, for one, would like to thank them.
