During the holidays, we are often asked to think about what we're most thankful for, and two things always come to mind for me.

First, is people like you. Those who I’ve met over the years and that have supported my team and the Ceca mission—in good times and in challenging times. I'm grateful that our paths crossed and know we have benefited from your time, insights and friendship.

Second, is health. If I’m honest, it's been a challenging year for friends and family, with health issues impacting those I hold most dear. I lost a very close friend suddenly, my Aunt Amy, back in May. I had an uncle diagnosed with cancer. My father required a long hospital stay. An in-law moved up a level in a long-term care community. I still consider myself lucky though, knowing others have suffered the type of physical and emotional pain that never goes away and can never be fully undone. I'm thinking about them right now as the end of the year approaches.

These are two of many reasons why I'm proud of the work our team does at Ceca. We get the opportunity each day to help tell the story of caregiving in this country—particularly in skilled nursing and long-term care communities where millions of America’s seniors are being provided the best possible comfort in their golden years. And we get to provide care workers with much deserved recognition and rewards when they go above and beyond. I can’t think of a more noble calling.

I hope that when you think of Ceca you're reminded there's still a whole lot of good in the world: people who dedicate their lives to helping out and caring for others. It's nurses and CNAs to be sure, but also housekeepers and kitchen staff, therapists and social workers and more, who help ensure high quality of life for the aging and ailing.

If you happen to be assessing end of year charitable giving opportunities, I'd also, of course, be honored if you’d consider a tax-deductible donation to Ceca. Perhaps your employer will even match it. Either way, one of our supporters certainly will, having already pledged a match up to $200,000.

But most of all, I want to thank you again for your love and support—and the time you've given Ceca over the years. It is enough...and also the most precious thing we have.

With love and gratitude,

Nate Hamme

If you have an extraordinary care worker in your life—a friend, family member or someone who cared for you or a loved one—we encourage you to say "thanks" by sharing your story through our Celebrating America’s Care Force initiative, a collaborative partnership to highlight the ways care workers improve the lives of those they serve. As part of the effort, Ceca will be selecting recipients to receive awards up to $2,500 to send a powerful message that their work caring for others in our communities is essential and transforms the lives of families all across the country.
