I am writing to you on Chag because this is an unprecedented moment, one that many are calling the worst day in Israel's 75-year history, a history that has known too many difficult days. None compare to this. Michigan Hillel just sent the following email to our students and I wanted to share it with you – our parent, alumni, and Ann Arbor community - so you are aware of how we are serving them during this time.

With all of you, I am praying for the safety and well-being of the Israeli people and all impacted by this violence.

B’Shalom,

Abbey Frank

Chair, Board of Trustees

We were devastated to wake up on Shabbat morning and the Shmini Atzeret/Simchat Torah holiday to the news of the horrific attacks on the Jewish homeland and the Israeli people. The photos, videos, and headlines of this attack against innocent people are shocking and heartbreaking; our hearts and prayers are with all of the Israeli people and families who have been affected by this tragedy. We are thinking of our students and community members with family and friends in Israel, as well as our alumni living there. We are here for you.

These events are difficult and the images are jarring and gut-wrenching, and we want you to know that Michigan Hillel staff is here for support. The building will be open for students to stop by throughout the day on Monday to debrief, talk to peers or simply be in a safe space with others experiencing similar feelings. Additionally, we are planning to gather as a community for a vigil on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Hillel building.

As always, you can also schedule time to talk individually with one of us.

If you feel like you need immediate support, please call or text any of our staff, or reach out to Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) 734-764-8312.
