Please Read: Service Update
A note to our library family:

At approximately 8 a.m. on Monday, June 26, we discovered a problem with our servers.  We later learned that they had been attacked by ransomware.

What happened?
You may have heard the buzz about ransomware on the news and wondered how it works.  Essentially, an encryption code is placed on your network and you are unable to access the network any longer, unless you pay to receive a decryption code to unlock.

How did this happen?
A file was dropped on one of our servers and upon the normal updating cycle reboot, attacked transaction files on the system causing everything to come to a screeching halt.   Although we already had all of the recommended security measures in place,  due to the sophistication of this particular attack,   our onsite backups were also incapacitated.  We were able to restore most things quickly with the exception of our server that houses our catalog system.

Am I at risk?
The intent here was money and not the data (please note: we don't have your credit card information or social security numbers stored on our system).

What's next?
We believe the staff side of our catalog system will be back up before the week is over (we're targeting Thursday, July 6).  At this point, there will be holes since we're running off a backup from earlier this year.

Here's what you can expect:
  • If you recently signed up for a library card, we may ask for your proof of address again.
  • We won't have your recent hold requests.  Please feel free to email, text or call us to place you on hold for titles you have previously requested.
  • You may see some outdated information on your account when our public catalog becomes accessible (there will be a delay as we attempt to make sure our inventory is up-to-date).  We'll send additional details on how to access your account as it goes live on your side.
  • Our ExpressCheck (self checkout machines) will stay down as we verify accounts and items.
Please know we're committed to doing our very best to get things back to normal again. This means we'll work with you to ensure your account is made right.  Please feel free to call us at (317) 852-3167, option 1 for account questions or (317) 852-3167, option 2 for any holds questions or book requests.

We know it's been a tough week and a half and we appreciate you hanging in there with us as we work through this. Rest assured knowing in addition to what we already had in place, we've added additional measures to help us recover more quickly should future attacks occur. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and interruption it's caused in delivering service to you and your families.
