Community Newsletter
March 2020
Dear Friends of East Bay Center,

We are moving full speed ahead into an exciting spring season here at East Bay Center! Our on-site group classes, as well as our in-school and after school classes at local public schools, have all begun, and we are thrilled to watch our students learning and growing.

We have some great programming and events lined up for the coming months as well! We recently hosted a beautiful joint concert with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Orchestra and the Center's own Richmond Chamber Ensemble. We were delighted to bring such wonderful musicians from SFCM to the Center to connect our students and community members.

We are looking forward to more exciting performances and events happening at the Center this spring! Read below for more information!

Young Artist Diploma Program: Applications Now Open!
Accepting Applications through April 30th for Summer 2020
The Young Artist Diploma Program is a six-year, tuition-free course of study designed to provide students with a critical set of skills they will be able to use in college and beyond. Through the active creation of original music, film, theater, dance, and community projects, the Center strives to enable our students to discover their true gifts and unique paths. The deep interrelationship of performing arts skills is such that understanding one training approach is strengthened by guided experience in others. East Bay Center is a recognized national model of this integrated approach to performing arts training.
WHO SHOULD APPLY
Due to limited space this year, the Center will only accept students entering the 7th and 8th grades in the Fall of 2020. However, high school students can apply and will be put on a waitlist for an interview when space becomes available. Students at an intermediate or advanced level in at least one of our core training areas – music, dance, theater, or media – are highly encouraged to apply.

HOW TO APPLY
All applicants must complete the  Young Artist Diploma Program Application Form , as well as receive a written nomination  by a school teacher, school administrator, artist, or mentor from the community. Applicants who complete their application form and receive a written nomination will receive a personal interview conducted by members of East Bay Center’s staff on a first come first served basis until all available slots are filled. This is a formal interview but not an audition, though the interview includes a request to listen to or watch a few minutes of you sharing your live performance in music, dance or theater. This interview and seeing you perform - even at the very beginning level - enables us to better place students in the most appropriate classes, as well as determine if the program is a good match for you at this time. Even though we are not able to accept all applicants, scholarships are available for those who are not accepted to enroll in group classes in the fall 2020/spring 2021 and are encouraged to re-apply the following year.
San Francisco Conservatory of Music Comes to the Center!
On February 2nd, the San Francisco Conservatory of music Orchestra, led by Lina González-Granados , crossed the Bay for a performance at East Bay Center! The program featured an opening performance by the Center's own Resident Company, Richmond Chamber Ensemble. Check out a video recap of this exciting performance below.
