A co-curricular education and community partnership
We proudly present The Winter Warm-Up's programs brought to you by The Newmarket School District and The Newmarket Recreation Department to help wipe away your winter woes. The Winter Warm Ups are meant to support the social and emotional well being of all of our community members. These programs are open to Newmarket community members ONLY and Newmarket teachers or employees.
These co-curricular community and education based programs are meant to warm up your body, mind and soul through a free and virtual platform. Learn something new, and have fun, all from the comfort of your home OR, gather your family and get outside to one of Newmarket's trails with the Great Outdoor Pursuit.

Virtual Creative Jewelry Making
|
Begins: Monday, January 18th then switches to Wednesdays.

This co-curricular educational class will provide participants with materials to create different, fun and amazing jewelry pieces. Each week the class will meet virtually for an hour and create something new!

Virtual Beginners Water color and Ink Painting

This co-curricular education class will guide participants through step by step instructions on how to create fun illustrations using watercolors and ink on paper. The creations can be used as wall decorations, greeting cards, postcards, journaling, story illustrations or just for fun.
Must register for this program by Thursday, January 21st
Materials will be available for pickup a week before the program starts

Music Production

This co-curricular activity would be great for anyone interested in getting a deeper knowledge in music. Intro to Music Production is a great class to take if you are trying to learn the ropes of Garage band. We will dive into the basic music and sound editing and by the end of the course we should be able to create a basic song/beat. Note that it will be useful to know some basic music theory, but it is not mandatory.

Virtual Creative Movements with Anthony

This co-curricular class will occur virtually once a week and will build on skills from the Choreography course. The concepts that will be taught are the fundamentals of the basics of dance influenced by Hip Hop. The class is focused on the development of movements in an individual to later progress to higher levels in the future.

Join us on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 7 pm to learn about how to explore the 5 top hiking trails in Newmarket. Learn about the notable sites to see on trails, difficulty levels, parking availability, trail maps and incentives & prizes to complete. After the presentation, explore the five hikes and complete the photo scavenger hunt to earn prizes. This is recommended for all ages.

We will dig for information – that which is known and unknown – to answer the questions: Did the indigenous Piscataqua peoples that lived in and around Great Bay live in a Paradis before European contact? And…. If they did live in Paradise why did it end? David P. Miller can guide you to the resources… You can answer the questions for yourself and share your findings with fellow participants if you wish.

The Impact of Lao

This co-curricular educational class will dive into some rich history. This first session will focus on the Lao history and culture in Newmarket. How one simple act of kindness has had a profound impact. The session will center around the early generations to now. We will also learn some basic language.

This second session will focus on the richness of Laotian food. Participants will learn how to make egg rolls as a group. Food is fuel to any friendship!

The Fit & Fun Room
A play space for families with children 5 and under, located at Newmarket Rec!

The Newmarket Rec is reopening our beloved Fit & Fun room next week and here's what you need to know:
- The Fit & Fun room will be available by reservation for your family or your cohort
- The Fit & Fun room will be open Monday - Thursday 9 am to 2 pm (Closed Fridays)
- Your family will be able to reserve the room for a 1 hour time period, your options will be 9-10 am, 11-12pm, or 1-2pm. Note: The room will be sanitized thoroughly between each hour reservation.
- It costs $10 to reserve the room for an hour and can host up to 8 people in the room (a combination of children and adults in one cohort)

Blooming Ballerina class is specifically designed to showcase the very basics of ballet, tap, and musical rhythm. Students will learn basic and intermediate ballet and tap skills and terms. Kids will focus on basic technique as well as creative movement.

Kids will have an opportunity to be introduced to the basics of Hip Hop Dance and learn the latest in this very popular dance genre which was created on the streets in urban settings and has now moved to professional dance studios where students learn hip hop lyrical. Our program will offer a little of both versions of Hip Hop plus, Animation which consists of Tutting & Top Rock, Waves & Isolations! Overall, students will learn the very basics of simple dance concept building an/or “Painting a Picture.”
