A Message from the District Attorney...

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

I am proud to announce that yesterday, we launched my administration's first Annual Report, covering the robust work we performed in 2025.

Since I was inaugurated over a year ago, the office has seen its workload increase substantially, with nearly 20,000 prosecutions handled across County Court and more than 40 local courts, over 60 trials and 140 hearings conducted, over 227 community outreach events organized and 6,246 Child Protective Services reports investigated, to cite a few examples.

I encourage you to read through the report to learn more about all of these efforts from the past year. We will continue to build on our most successful strategies from 2025 in the coming year, including further meetings with my Hate Crimes Advisory Board, new partnerships with local school districts and renewed investment in our various diversion programs.

The Annual Report offers a broad look at the jurisdictional and geographical breadth of the office's mandate. Our efforts encompass every portion of this county, all 45 municipalities, and cover a wide range of criminal conduct, from Vehicle and Traffic Law offenses to murders, rapes and robberies, which we prosecute with regular frequency.

In 2025, we obtained convictions for Hasseem Jenkins, the Peekskill man who brutally murdered Westchester County social worker Maria Coto, following a lengthy jury trial; and Fernando Jimenez Meza, who murdered 15-year-old Michael Raimondi and shot Michael's mother and brother, following a negotiated plea. These were some of the most notorious crimes committed in Westchester in recent memory, and my office worked diligently to ensure justice would be done for the victims' surviving relatives.

We also expended significant effort engaging in advocacy on policy matters in 2025, helping ensure the law reflects our expectations for public safety in the 21st century. I ventured up to Albany, multiple times, to help reform our lopsided discovery laws, preventing serious criminal cases from being dismissed on technicalities. I also worked with our County legislative partners to draft new prohibitions on AI-based criminal harassment, giving us the legal tools we need to fight this type of pernicious conduct.

You can find a copy of the Annual Report on our website, linked here, and on our social media feeds.

Moving forward, we will look at which programs worked well, which need more fine-tuning, and we will continue to deploy every strategy in our arsenal to help keep the people of Westchester safe. That has always been my North Star, and it will continue to guide me over the course of my administration.

If you have any feedback, do not hesitate to reach out. As always, I look forward to hearing from you.

In friendship,

District Attorney Susan Cacace

School Safety and Collaboration

Partners in Safety, Partners in Success

On Apr. 29, DA Cacace held the second School Safety and Collaboration Seminar, focusing on mandated reporting, criminal investigations and the safety and welfare of children in our community.

In attendance were important stakeholders from across Westchester, including superintendents, social workers, teachers, guidance counselors, principals, school resource officers and other public safety partners.

We look forward to continuing these partnerships in the months and years ahead!

The Sharing Shelf

DA Cacace was so proud to present The Sharing Shelf of Port Chester with the proceeds from her Pinwheel Garden fundraiser last month, in honor of National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Our office raised $2,901 to combat clothing insecurity in Westchester, in addition to collecting 15 large bags' worth of new and gently used clothing.

No child in Westchester is secure until all children in Westchester are secure.

Denim Day

In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the office rallied in support of Denim Day, which is recognized on the last Wednesday of every April.

Denim Day was founded in 1999 following an Italian appellate court's decision to overturn the rape conviction of a 45-year-old man, reasoning that his 18-year-old victim must have consented to the sexual contact because she was wearing tight jeans, thereby making the jeans impossible to remove involuntarily. After this decision, outraged women in the Italian Parliament appeared at work wearing jeans in solidarity with this young survivor.

This protest movement gained momentum and spread across the world, where Denim Day is now observed to combat the tropes and stigmas that continue to surround sexual assault and sexual abuse cases.

Everyone’s a Reader Day

Nancy Barry, the First Deputy District Attorney, thoroughly enjoyed interacting with students at Lincoln-Titus Elementary School during their “Everyone’s a Reader Day.”

Liberty Medal

DA Cacace was thrilled to witness our hometown heroes, the Gramajo family of White Plains, receive the Liberty Medal, one of the highest civilian honors in New York State.

In 2024, Armando, Shayla and Jimmy Gramajo intervened in a murder in progress, sparing the victim her life and halting the assailant's violent spree.

Last year, the Gramajos were awarded DA Cacace's inaugural Civilian Hero Award for their bravery.

In moments like these, the Gramajos should serve as a source of inspiration to us all about our individual power to make a real difference in someone else's life. Their heroism helped save a young woman, a mother, from an untimely death.

Thank you to State Senator Shelley Mayer for selecting the Gramajos for this prestigious award!

MPACnow Awards

DA Cacace was so honored to be recognized by MPACnow with their award for public service. Congratulations to all the awardees!
