Hello friends –
The title of this week’s sermon is “Wrestling”. As Iowans, we may immediately have an image in our mind of muscle bound people in singlets, or perhaps spandex and too much hair product. Our scripture, Genesis 32:22-31, does include a wrestling match of sorts. Jacob, which in Hebrew can be translated “wrestle”, faces a turning point in his life – a time of uncertainty. As he waits for his brother, Esau, to arrive, Jacob is left alone in the dark to contemplate his previous actions and his future. We often think of night and darkness as bad, but in this scripture Jacob encounters God face to face, is transformed and blessed. How might wrestling with God in the dark times of our lives help each of us be transformed?
