Hello friends –
This week our Season of Creation worship will focus on RIVERS and our scripture will be Revelation 22:1-5. This passage includes some very thought provoking images – specifically the image of a river that flows from God bringing goodness to the whole world. This river, much like our rivers in Des Moines, flows through the middle of the city and waters trees full of blessings.

Worship continues to be ONLINE ONLY. The service will be live-streamed here: https://youtu.be/dA3OC84EW8w  Once the live-stream is finished you will be able to watch the service any time. If you are having problems finding the service on the YouTube channel or need any assistance accessing online worship, please let the church office know and someone will contact you to help.

Next Sunday we will conclude the Season of Creation with an outdoor worship service that will include a pet blessing and a pet memorial. We will gather on the west side of the building and there will be places marked on the pavement indicating where you can place your lawn chairs. You can also remain in your cars, roll down your windows, and listen to the service from there. The service will be online also, so you can stay at home and watch the service. Please let me know BY OCTOBER 1 if you have a pet that has crossed the rainbow bridge that you would like remembered. If there is inclement weather the outdoor service will be cancelled and worship will be ONLINE ONLY.
As always, I am praying for all of you and your well-being. Please reach out to me if you have questions or concerns or just want to catch up.
Shalom,
Heather

Shalom is a Hebrew word meaning peace, harmony, wholeness, completeness, prosperity,
welfare and tranquility.
These things I pray for you.
Ah, NUTS!

For many years HPCC has sold nuts during the holidays as a fundraiser for the church. With most craft fairs cancelled and church online, the Nut Team is trying to determine if they should sell them this year. If they do sell them, it would be prepaid orders only and the prices will be, for the most part, the same as last year.

Please contact Sheri Reher BY OCTOBER 1 at nuts.hpcc@gmail.com and let her know if you would preorder, what you would want (which nuts and mixes) and how many packages/pounds you would buy.  Based on folk’s response, they will determine if we have enough interest to place an order and if so, will distribute order forms.
A few important announcements:
  • HPCC needs sanitizing wipes to keep the building clean and safe. Contact the church office to make arrangements to drop off any you are able to donate.
  • HPCC is always in need of certain items year round: toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags (33 gal.) We have an Amazon Gift List available where you can select items and have them sent straight to the churchhttps://smile.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/262CNO3ZB2DUD/ref=cm_wl_huc_view
  • If you use Amazon, please consider designating HPCC as your charity of choice on Amazon Smile. Go to: https://smileamazon.com, select Highland Park Christian Church as your charitable organization and HPCC will receive 0.5% of the amount purchased every time you shop.
  • It is time to prepare for fall and winter. During these difficult times, the expense of buying a warm coat may be more than some can afford. Please consider donating a warm coat to the Clothes Closet (children or adult). Although the Clothes Closet is not currently open, we will make sure people who contact the church and need a coat are helped.
  • During the pandemic the Disciples (p.k.a Deaconesses) have continued to reach out with calls and cards to our home-bound and those in nursing facilities. As soon as it is safe to do so they will resume in person visits and sharing communion. If this is a ministry that you would like to be part of, please contact Jeanne Williamson.
Reminders…
  • All worship services until further notice will be online only and can be found on the church YouTube channel. YOUTUBE PRO TIP: If you subscribe to the HPCC YouTube channel the worship service will be available immediately after the live-stream finishes, otherwise it can take a while for it appear. You will need to create a YouTube account in order to subscribe. Also, if you found the worship service meaningful, please comment, give it a “THUMBS UP” and/or share it with others.
  • Youth group, Clothes Closet and Welcome Table are cancelled until further notice.
  • The church elders are calling folks to check and see how everyone is doing. When an elder calls you, be sure and let them know if there is anything you need. If you have not heard from an elder, send an email to joan.hpcc@gmail.com and make sure we have your current contact information.
  • The HPCC prayer list and critical prayer concerns are being shared via email. If you would like to receive these emails or have a concern to share, please contact Pastor Heather or Joan via email.
  • No one is in the building on a regular basis, so please use email to contact the church staff.
  • Although we are not currently able to use the church facility as a group, the expenses to operate the facility and maintain staff continue. If you are able to support the church through your giving, contributions can be sent to the church office or through the Givelify app on your smartphone or tablet. You can also establish an automatic bill pay through your bank so your offering comes to the church every week even when you cannot.
