Caring for seniors has been a focal point Kathryn’s of life for many years. During her childhood, close and treasured relationships with elderly neighbors and grandparents led her to a career path in healthcare and geriatrics. As a native Oregonian, Kathryn gained experience and training working as a live-in Assistant Manager at adult foster care homes and retirement communities. Her love for Maine (thanks to fond memories of spending summers at her Grandfather's inn) brought Kathryn to coastal Maine in the early 1990's where she worked as a private caregiver while attending the University of Maine online to obtain a BS in Library Science and Information Services.
Kathryn’s years working as a librarian have transcended into her caregiving, as she frequently checks out books to bring to clients who have difficulty traveling to the library. Kathryn states that “caregiving is an occupation which has synergized my varied interests, qualifications and experiences into very satisfying "win-win" relationships with those I serve, as well as with my valued co-workers who successfully strive with me to give our very best to our Cahoon Care clients.”

The Alzheimer's Partnership South Shore : 14th Annual Conference and Caregiver Day
|
Each April, the Alzheimer’s Partnership South Shore hosts a conference at the clubhouse in Oak Point, Middleboro. This was Cahoon Care's second year attending the conference and it was a great day. The conference is designed to educate, empower, and pamper caregivers, whether they’re family caregivers or professionals in the industry.
As always, educational speakers helped caregivers understand the latest information on what was happening in the world of fighting Alzheimer's and dementia, including new research, current studies, therapies, and prevention strategies. In the afternoon, speakers presented, "It's Dementia," a discussion that helped caregivers and families better understand the different types of dementia. Caregivers learned some new tricks and practices to help deal with and understand what is happening a loved one’s mind, in order to better care for them.
Cahoon Care had a booth so that we could get to know the community better as well as let others know about the services and support we offer this community as a company. We are proud to be a part of the community and support this great event.
