Our Featured Employee
Yovi O'Connell
We're pleased to announce that Yovemyl “Yovi” O’Connell is Cahoon Care’s caregiver of the quarter. Although Yovi has only been with us for three months, she has been an extraordinary asset to the Cahoon Care team. Yovi started providing care to both elderly and disabled private clients in 2014, and continued working for many different clients throughout the next five years.

In March of 2019 Yovi enrolled in a home health aide course and received her certification. She plans to take the test for her CNA soon and has been recently considering furthering her education, but hopes to continue working in the medical field. Yovi enjoys working with many different clients. Her openness and flexibility have allowed her to gain experience and will ultimately contribute to her possessing stronger skills both has a caregiver and as a person.

Yovi emphasizes the importance of family and taking care of one another. Her passion for caregiving originated during the time when she cared for her mother-in-law in the Philippines, and she’s often reminded of her grandparents when working with our clients here. When not providing caregiving services, Yovi loves spending time with her two children and her husband. On her days off they will often go biking, swimming, to the park, or to the movies.

Clients have called Yovi “very good, kind, and attentive.” One client noted, “She lives nearby, is a good cook, and likes my dog. Some other caregivers don’t like my dog.”

Join Cahoon Care for the Walk to End Alzheimer's
We're pleased to announce that Cahoon Care will be participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's for the our fifth time. Cahoon Care Associates in both Maine and Massachusetts have formed teams to participate in these events. These walks are fundraisers for the Alzheimer's Association and help to fund care, support, and research to end this disease.

Cahoon Care Associates in Massachusetts will be participating in a walk held on September 14th in Plymouth, MA. We'd like to welcome anyone to join our team and come walk with us. Even if you can't make the walk, you can still donate to the Massachusetts team here.

Cahoon Care Associates in Maine will be participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's in Bangor, Maine on October 19th, 2019. The girls in the office, Tammy Arthur and Rachael Jean, decided to create a fundraising event at The Grand Theater in Ellsworth and show a movie called What They Had. This film came out in 2018 and highlights a family dealing with their mother who has Alzheimer's disease and the dynamics of her children trying to get her the care she needs against their father's wishes to keep his wife at home.

Before the movie started, Amy Dunn, a researcher from the Jackson Laboratory, spoke to the audience about her current Alzheimer's research. Amy presented a slideshow which demonstrated the way the brain degenerates over time with Alzheimer's disease and discussed how scientists conduct research using mice, mazes, and poor diets.

During the event, we raised $650 to host the event at The Grand from community members in Ellsworth and MDI. We were able to raise $500 from presale tickets and donations made the night of the event. These donations go directly to the team's contribution for our participation in the Walk in October. You're welcome to come walk with our team in Maine, or you can donate to the team here if you aren't able to make the walk in person.
