West Hawai'i
  • West Hawaii Master Gardeners are excited to be expanding our Fruit Tree Orchard. We recently gathered to plant six trees donated by Ken Love, Executive Director of Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers, and a multi-grafted citrus tree donated by Ty McDonald, Kona Extension Agent and West Hawai'i Master Gardener Coordinator.

  • Trees donated by Ken Love include tangerine - Miho Wasse, chocolate (black) sapote, Sierra fig, marang, finger lime and moringa. The yellow pitaya will be placed later once that area is prepared for planting. Master Gardener Ed F. led the group in the planting of the trees. MG Ed had previously set up irrigation lines to the area.

  • Master Gardener Kathy F. is leading the group in the Vegetable Demonstration Garden, growing UH seeds and recording time to transplant size, time to harvest, effectiveness of insect and disease control, and time to peak garden appearance.

  • We will be holding a Demonstration Garden Field Day in April 2018, which will be open to the public. We are planning on the full involvement of our 2018 Master Gardener Volunteer Training Program Trainees in this project
August 17th was our planting day in the no-till demo garden with plantings of Kabocha squash and purple sweet potatoes.
East Hawai'i
  • 7 EHIMGA MGs took the Worker Protection Standard Training on August 9th. It will become part of our 2018 class.
